Dumb question: Resume paper for resumes, but ordinary paper for things like transcripts and writing samples?

Regular paper for sure (unless a 3L wants to put me in my place on this).

I get the resume paper thing, but I doubt they'll actually hold on to it. You have to attach your resume to your bid, so they'll likely have it printed on normal paper already and the one you hand them on fancy paper won't help you at all.

Also, how does this thread die when EIP bidding opens? Everyone come back!

I'm not printing my resume on fancy paper. I don't even know where to find fancy paper. I barely know how to find a printer.

Please use resume paper for your resume. You do not want to stand out in a bad way.

Could someone more knowledgable speak a little bit about Weil? I know it has a strong bankrupty group and overall appears to be a great firm. It had a lower honors offer rate compared to its peers last year. Is it actually less selective or was last year an anomaly? What's the general culture of the firm?

(1) Pretty normal though I wonder if layoffs made them reach further down, but I kinda doubt it. They have a personality type. "Peer" is odd and unless you're talking about a practice group it's hard to say which firms are "peer." (e.g. are you talking about Kirkland? (soft-IP and Bankruptcy are you talking about peers for corporate work? and so on)

(2) work hard play hard (but culture is a hard thing to get a feel for until you actually interview with a firm

If you're interested in bankruptcy, there are few better firms to go to (arguments could be made for Kirkland, Wachtell, and DPW). Culture is kind of eccentric (loud and friendly, but a little strange), but everyone there is top-notch, professional, and very very kind. They also have a bankruptcy blog, which will allow you to get an online presence if you do bankruptcy.

I think the layoff news combining with OCI last year was a little off-putting for people, which may be why numbers are down. Now that things have stabilized, I think things will return to the status-quo.

If you want bankruptcy, Weil is first rate. But probably wouldn't go there for anything else if I had a choice. Definitely less selective than the top NYC firms.

Hahahaha. Can we have all three?! Please don't say that first failed bid stuff comes into play?

Anyone know when Law Review offers go out, though? I know they'll have made their calls by the 7th, but do they start calling on the 7th, too? It'd be a pain in the ass to have to modify all the submitted resumes for the bid list later, to reflect whichever journal we end up with. The sooner the better!

The packet seemed to indicate they they would start and finish calling people on the 7th, with a midnight deadline to respond. Then other journals hopefully a day or two after that?

Based on the EIP email we got yesterday, it seems like you can update all 30 resumes at once though, so I don't think it'll be a huge pain.

If we have callback interviews with firms that are coming to EIP, but we are interviewing with another office (interviewing in secondary city), should we bid on that NYC office? Or if I don't get an offer with their secondary city, is it unlikely that I'll get an offer from their NYC office? Like, how do I tell them "I already interviewed with you in X city and they didn't want me, but maybe you'll think differently!" Or would it show the secondary office interest in the firm? Thanks!

Here's my initial bid list, 3.37, K-JD, very minor diversity, solid interviewer (but then again, everyone says that). Would prefer lit. All NYC. Trying to make as conservative of a bid list as possible. Thanks everyone!

5) Hogan
6) Kaye Scholer
7) White and Case
8 Clifford Chance

This is a good and safe bid list. Personally, I think you could throw in a couple more reaches on there since you're pretty close to Stone and targeting all NYC. I'm not sure which ones exactly (I see Weil). Overall you seem to be in a solid position.

Thanks for the feedback! Any firms you would recommend? And also importantly, where to bid them? A fear of mine is that I would have to bid "reach" firms higher up, and might miss out on my target firms. Thanks!

I'm not positive which ones would be a good reach. You should find reasonable ones that you like and consider adding them (Debevoise? Paul Weiss?). One reach or two can't hurt since your GPA is pretty good & you have plenty of target firms. Obviously doing this adds some risk, so you have to decide if it's worth it. Your current list is a safe one.

Question: I have my GPA from undergrad written on the resume. Wondering whether I should throw my law school GPA on there as well (~3.5)? Or take off both?

Why have your undergrad GPA on there at all? I could see a case if it's really good, it's in a hard science, AND you are applying for IP, but it kinda seems juvenile otherwise.

As for your CLS GPA, if it was good enough to be of note (Stone or Kent) that info will already be on your transcript. Leave them both off.

Not griping about it, but I was under the impression we weren't allowed to have GPAs on our resume? (At least for EIP?)

Seriously? What are you waiting for?
