Maybe, maybe they could pass up on matching in Charlotte (have the firms with major Charlotte offices matched? I have no idea), but there's no way they can avoid matching in NYC, and it's looking a lot like DC will be a 180 market too.

In 2007 they matched in something like 20 minutes. That was back when they were one of the ten most profitable firms.

Now that their PPP has plateaued or worse even while their leverage has increased, and a move to $180k would be 7% of their PPP...their silence is very interesting.

Any speculation/rumors regarding GDC? Looks like back in 2007 it took them until May to match the bump to 160 that occurred in January. But I assumed firms would want to make the call before July, when OCI bidding cranks up.

Maybe, maybe they could pass up on matching in Charlotte (have the firms with major Charlotte offices matched? I have no idea), but there's no way they can avoid matching in NYC, and it's looking a lot like DC will be a 180 market too.

I think Winston matched in Charlotte. Dechert is Cadwalader's competition in Charlotte though (same-ish practice groups and also pays 160 currently), so whether they match for all offices will make a big difference. They both could get away with staying at 160 -- that's like $400,000 a year in NY dollars already.

I've been told their Charlotte office's cap markets practice (their main thing) is more profitable than the group in NY. So I'd hope they'd throw a bone for that. Then again, $180k in Charlotte is stupid high.

Current CWT associate and can confirm this. The Charlotte office does NY work for NY clients for way lower overhead. They clean up.

But wait. At the SA meeting last summer they told me all about how being "one firm worldwide (tm) (not based in NY guys!)" has made them so elite and strong and constantly moving up Amlaw... They see their peers as Skadden, P,W, not sweaTTTshops like Cadwalader! That means they're just figuring out how to raise to $190 in all offices (ONE firm worldwide, amirite) before they announce?
