I think the stigma associated wtih black suits is a myth. i see them all the time around here, especially among the larger firm types. and they look pretty sharp!

Are you sure you're not seeing midnight navy suits? I have hardly seen anyone in big law wearing a black suit. Dark navy suits that look close to black, sure, but not black suits. The Valkyrie wrote:I think the stigma associated wtih black suits is a myth. i see them all the time around here, especially among the larger firm types. and they look pretty sharp!

Very few quality suits are actually black, but rather very dark charcoal grey or midnight navy. The Valkyrie wrote:not totally sure, but they look black to me. we dont have any true biglaw firms in my city. the stuff im seeing looks like this, which comes up under a google image search for "black suit":Bronte wrote:Are you sure you're not seeing midnight navy suits? Yep. Dark charcoal or dark navy often resemble black suits. Highly doubt they're actually wearing black.

If you can't tell the difference, what does it matter? If something looks black, it's black for all intents and purposes.

You may not be able to tell, but I bet other people can.The Valkyrie wrote:If you can't tell the difference, what does it matter? If something looks black, it's black for all intents and purposes.
And, again... This thread is about best practices. If you already have a black suit that works and fits well, by all means wear it. HOWEVER, if you are in this thread because you want advice on what to spend your money on, your BEST BET is to get a dark charcoal or midnight navy.
It's the cap-toe discussion all over again. No one is saying "ditch your wardrobe or NO OFFER." Just offering the best advice we can give for people looking to buy new clothes.

Can you get the ABA discount on top of that BB deal?
I probably won't jump the gun but I'm tempted.

I went. The guy said $1700 - 20% off was what they had, so that's $680 each.romothesavior wrote:WOW I totally missed this. Shiiiiit... I would have been all over that.InGoodFaith wrote:GREAT deal. Either would be fine. The one on the left is the more conservative choice.

gold ties were the power ties of the 1990s. you don't really see them anymore, particularly with the younger professionals
