Chicago is going to be interesting. With Winston, Sidley, and Kirkland matching plus Latham and Skaddden you have to figure Jenner and Mayer will follow soon. But does anyone think any the other big Chicago firms will match anytime soon?

I'm sure Baker and DLA Piper will at some point (and Ropes & Paul Hastings if the home offices raise), but I'm not sure Katten, McDermott or the others will follow suit immediately.

JD deserves it's own independent shame thread. with black box + this bullshit and yet they still get good talent (not to mention if you look at their Wiki you would think they were a God).

If they don't match, I seriously hope that 2L's will blacklist them from their bid list and mass midlevel defections.

If I was going to put money on it I'd venture that Jones day will match cravath in new york and california at least, move with the rest on DC when they announce, and leave the rest at its current state. JD can safely boost first and second years to 180 and 190 and leave the rest opaque and not spill too much.

These firms have the best profits per lawyer (excluding WH who'll pull a Covington mark my words) of the remaining unmatched firms and, with the exception of SRZ, have had decent enough growth that they should be able to stomach the cost (compared the cost of raising all associate salaries to recent growth/revenue).

I think you're generally right, they have 200 attorneys in Chicago too so they have to match there. But even though they're blackbox they would have to give some kind of raise to all the midlevels and senior associates otherwise they would be up in arms making the same as first and second years.
