Has anyone been able to apply to GDC? The link on their website to the application says they're not taking any.

Re: Pre-OCI 2021
Agreed. You have to talk to people at the firm. Make notes of your conversations, and recite sentences from your notes in the interviews. It's really not that difficult. Even if you're right that the firms are virtually indistinguishable, which I actually don't agree with, just having these conversations will allow you to feign interest to the point that you might get an offer if you have the requisite creds.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Tue Jun 29, 2021 3:04 pmYou are going to do horribly at OCI with that attitude. Review Vault, Chambers Associate, firm websites, and speak with alums and 3Ls at firms to figure out what firms pride themselves on.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Tue Jun 29, 2021 3:02 pmLiterally what else are we supposed to say. Weil as a firm is going to be 100% interchangeable with pretty much every other firm in that range. They'll have marginally better or worse practice groups for certain things. Whoopee. Even firms with marquee practices don't place the majority of their associates in that group. So unless you talked to a person in the firm previously you're stuck repeating garbage from their recruiting materials. And if you do talk to a person at the firm, they're just going to say the same good things about the firm every other person at every other firm you've spoken to says. I'd know, I've done like twenty of those calls by now. Unless they say bad things about the firm, in which case obviously you're not going to repeat that (or hopefully even apply to the firm).dyemond wrote: ↑Tue Jun 29, 2021 2:45 pmEvery firm in the V20 does a solid amount of WSJ-front page work, so you need to do a bit more if you get that Q. If you want Weil RX, like that's pretty obvious "why Weil", but otherwise having an actual "Weil" hook will help. I don't work there but telling me that you like that they're band 1 or 2 or whatever in general NY corporate just doesn't come across as terribly well thought-out.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Tue Jun 29, 2021 11:30 amHow detailed should the answer to "Why Weil" be? Shouldn't naming one or two notable transactions be enough?Anonymous User wrote: ↑Tue Jun 29, 2021 10:38 amA similar experience for me also just resulted in a ding. I've had three callbacks and two screeners now and the partner interviews I did with Weil were definitely the most uncomfortable.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Tue Jun 29, 2021 10:12 amMeh interviews with 2 people. 1 was weirdly aggressive about pushing me on my "Why Weil" to the point I couldn't really give more detail, and a partner and I just didn't click. I mentioned a couple Chambers rankings about practice areas (in the sense Weil had great rankings) and he seemed extremely turned off by that.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Tue Jun 29, 2021 10:06 am
sorry to hear that. what makes you feel like it was expected?
Unless a firm is literally substantively different (ala Quinn only doing lit for example) then any answer to "why our firm" that asks a candidate to go beyond basic regurgitation of information they found online is stupid and honestly a red flag that the firm drinks their own kool-aid too much.

Just lie and say you want to do bankruptcy or are really interested in bankruptcy and you'll be in good shape.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Tue Jun 29, 2021 11:30 amHow detailed should the answer to "Why Weil" be? Any more movement from DPW NY or STB than the original 1 or 2 offers each that were reported? Nearing two weeks on one and one week on the other since callbacks.

Nope. 2 weeks for me today, and they told me as well that I shouldn’t be surprised if it took at least 2 weeks. Guess we should be hearing ourselves or seeing others get offers soonAnonymous User wrote: ↑Wed Jun 30, 2021 9:32 amHas anyone who had a CB at DPW and they were told it would be a couple of weeks heard anything yet ? Is 3.5 from NYU competitive at all? I don't have a journal since I had a time conflict during write-on. Is missing a secondary journal gonna hurt my chance a lot?

Re: Pre-OCI 2021
If anyone who has offers from Weil, DPW, or STB can comment on whether they expressed interest in litigation or transactional work, I'd be curious. Genuinely don't know if it matters, but wondering if it would help my case to start lying to everyone and telling them I'm dying to work in M&A.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
