For those of you who struck out at OCI, do the following:

1) Get on learnleo and use that tool to keep reaching out to large firms.
2) Email large firms you did not interview with at OCI. Most firms will still be in interview season, so don't expect quick positive responses.
3) Use the small and midsize firm resources. You might not snag 180k jobs this way, but there are lots of smaller firms that will be happy to have summers.
4) Start looking into in-house opportunities.
5) Start looking at clerkship as a post graduation employment plan (federal hires now, but it's still too early for most state judges).
6) Try to stay positive. Lots of people end up at large firms outside OCI. And lots of people end up being very happy never working at a law firm. There are probably some callback offers that will still trickle in, but it's best not to wait on making alternative plans.

So if we haven't heard back from say, 20 firms, it's unlikely that we'll get CBs from those firms?

My understanding is that smaller markets may just be slower, so all hope is not lost. That being said, I think we should be mass mailing like crazy while waiting for responses.

Yes, some of the smaller markets wait to decide who to call back until they've done interviews at a bunch of schools, so you might still end up with callbacks. However, if you were primarily looking at New York (or other big markets) and you don't have callbacks yet, it's time to start plotting a path that is not dependent on a late OCI CB.

The reality is that for most small and midsize firms, government agencies, state and local governments, and in-house positions, it'll be a long time until they're hiring, but you should start making connections now and gathering info now. You have the time now.

OCP can be somewhat helpful with the fall OCI thing and the symplicity postings, but if you want to end up at a large law firm still, that is something you should pursue aggressively more or less on your own.

Would you say that this same smaller markets logic applies to branch offices of large firms? I've gotten radio silence from several of the smaller southern branch offices of larger firms that I interviewed with. These firms also already have reported dings and CBs from their NY/DC/Chi offices.

I know someone that interviewed Kirkland Friday and got their offer Monday. Was that your experience/were you on a superday? Wondering whether their convention is next-day or after a weekly recruitment meeting.
