Re: NY to 190k??(possibly led by Paul Weiss)
A certain V10 firm recently (like within the past week) changed their website from listing starting salary at $160,000 to not listing any salary.
This could mean something. This could also mean nothing.

You really needed to post anonymously to talk about a firm's website, and you don't even list the firm? Yikes...Anonymous User wrote:A certain V10 firm recently (like within the past week) changed their website from listing starting salary at $160,000 to not listing any salary.

I kinda feel like if you're going to say dumb stuff like "I totes heard a rumor that salaries are going up" then you shouldn't be allowed to do it like an Anon coward but I think it's kind of funny too so carry on you coward(s)

This thread needs to be purified, immediately. All anons should be outed and forced to adopt "NYC to 190K" tars as a condition of continued TLS membership.BigZuck wrote:I kinda feel like if you're going to say dumb stuff like "I totes heard a rumor that salaries are going up" then you shouldn't be allowed to do it like an Anon coward but I think it's kind of funny too so carry on you coward(s)

It's moving 100% confirmed. My money is on 175 but it's moving. Looking like 20+ firms I the first batch.
Eta - I imagine news will be out for each starting class. So end of September/October for everyone.

To be clear I'm not flaming. Firms are moving. Chicago is moving too. Not sure about numbers yet but many firms are moving.

Through the grapevine I've heard that firms might start bumping up in secret in the next couple of weeks.

Talked to a CSM associate who said, "We're not paid enough. We should be making $30k more." $30k is 30,000, and 30,000 plus 160,000 is 190,000.

No it's going to be at least 15 major firms making the move together. The reason the compensation move took so long is because there is actually some nuance to it and it's not as simple as every city moving to 175 or 190 or whatever it is. There's also been a lot of behind the scenes coordination between the firms making the move otherwise this would have been done in July (this last 2 sentence was speculation as to reasoning - everything else is confirmed). 190 for NYC and 175 for the rest wouldn't surprise me.Anonymous User wrote:Through the grapevine I've heard that firms might start bumping up in secret in the next couple of weeks.

Provided you're not full of shit, and I have no reason to believe you are, where is your info coming from?JohannDeMann wrote:No it's going to be at least 15 major firms making the move together. Since mid-levels are most in need, I am guessing they would get at least the same bump up if not a larger one

NO they're just going to start paying 1st years more than 2nd years and 3rd years. They'll get bigger bonuses, nicer shoulder bags, and better treatment form the partners too.PennBull wrote:Does this bump up other class years as well? Long time coming, I'm glad to hear it. Only thing is I'm an incoming associate and the letter says $160k so I'm hoping to God that they just unilaterally increase the amount.JohannDeMann wrote:No it's going to be at least 15 major firms making the move together. This is probably an antitrust violation if the conduct that you describe in fact occurred. See e.g. In re High Tech.
