Re: NYU EIW Madness 2015
I have a 3.05 and I've gotten 11 callbacks and 2 dings. Feeling really fortunate and confused at how this happened.
What's the etiquette for declining callbacks? I know OCS says we should take them all until we get an offer, but I don't want to take up slots at firms where my likelihood of accepting an offer is really low. Has anyone else done this yet?

Re: NYU EIW Madness 2015
Is it ever a good idea to turn down a callback if you're in the lower GPA ranges? I'm wondering what would account for people in those ranges turning down 1-2 CBs. Is it because they get an offer and then they decide to be more selective?Anonymous User wrote:For NYU 2Ls during the Fall 2014 recruiting season:*

I won't be accepting one of my CBs. My plan is just not to schedule it. I'm sure if you feel like you had a really strong connection with your interviewer, it wouldn't hurt to send them an email.ch2104 wrote:I have a 3.05 and I've gotten 11 callbacks and 2 dings. Anyone heard from Reed Smith, Bracewell, Stroock, Pryor Cashman, or Moses and Singer?

To the above anon poster in re Gibson Dunn: I am in the same boat as you. I thought my interview with them went very well and felt as if they were selling me towards the end. I'm also in their GPA range (between a 3.5 and 3.6). I know some people on this thread have reported hearing back from Gibson, but don't loose hope just yet. I glanced at last year's EIW thread and it seems like Gibson made calls on Friday and Monday.
Good luck, everyone!

CBs:
Simpson (DS)
Weil (JS)
Cleary (LD)
MoFo (TG)
Skadden (JC & DI)
Latham (LW)
Gibson (AS)
GPA: ~3.45
All calls were last week but thought I might contribute. No dings (yet). Is it normal to not hear from somewhere on Friday?

The Simpson callback was about an hour ago yes. But it was for a split summer so who knows how that matches up to the rest of their callbacks.

Re: NYU EIW Madness 2015
Just got my Cleary ding. This is the fucking worst. RIght now I have 4 CBs, 3 dings. 3.68 GPA. I'm a transfer, so I guess that might be part of why I'm not getting CBs? But I'm a transfer from a pretty good school so I didn't think it would count too much against me. I had multiple mock interviews at my old school and here and have not had any negative feedback. I wasn't expecting much, but I was at least expecting around 6-8 CBs so I'd be in the average range. Pretty disappointed.

Out of curiosity, were any of these V10 or V20 firms?
I have a 3.1 and got 6 CBs so far, but with some of the less selective firms.

If you wouldn't mind emailing / calling the firm to let you know you won't be taking their callback, that would possibly open up a spot for those of us waitlisted. Would be much appreciated by both other students and the firm, I'm sure.

I have done/will be doing 10 CBs with Bay Area firms, but barely got any CB from NY, which feels pretty discouraging as my GPA is squarely in the top 1/3 and I heard NY firms don't generally question your ties.

I agree with 10:21. If anyone knows for sure that they will not be scheduling their callback, please call the firm and decline. Some of your classmates have no callbacks and are waiting for spots to open up.

Re: NYU EIW Madness 2015
IMO the averages are pretty deceiving since it seems to give you the belief that everyone gets an offer who does EIW, which is obviously not true. Without knowing standard deviation and what kind of distribution we're looking at, the numbers for CBs and offers shouldn't lull anyone into a sense of complacency. It's possible that people who are ridiculously good looking + good interviewers are skewing the numbers in a way that is distorting the averages (anecdotally in this thread it definitely seems like these people exist). I'm at 5 CBs and I will likely be mass mailing my secondary market and checking up with other screeners this week.
At the same time, it seems like the anecdotes about getting CBs trickle in over time are credited too. Wait list doesn't mean you aren't going to get anything; so long as you're not dinged yet, it's not "over". There might even be a reverse effect as time goes on, since ideal candidates have likely been picked up by top firms already and the firms need to start scrambling to fill summer classes. I wouldn't rely on this necessarily, but everything in law school has been a marathon and not a sprint.

I highly doubt someone's attractiveness is going to land them a callback.Anonymous User wrote:It's possible that people who are ridiculously good looking + good interviewers are skewing the numbers in a way that is distorting the averages

Hang in there, more callbacks will come this week (and throughout the next few weeks)!
87% of students last year received at least 1 offer through EIW. Sure, that's not everyone, but it's still better than almost every other school out there.

Does anyone know if firms will give people CBs when their offers (to those after a CB) are declined? This is opposed to the firm giving an offer to someone else who already had a CB when enough offers are declined.
