Does everyone's firms not give you the part-year employment method option?

I'm now going to troll this thread mercilessly until it stops being horrible.
Also, because people keep asking, what I had heard was 9 exemptions is best. You're entitled to claim more, but you're supposedly increasing the odds you get audited past that.

Like yes, you should all be very afraid of your summer where they will feed you good food, ply you with free booze, and actually attempt to give you interesting (but easy!) things to occupy your time.
You poor, unfortunate souls.

By this time last year the SA thread was well into fretting about no-offers. We need to catch up, people.
Also Smaug: why don't you tell us what you would've done differently in your 2L summer knowing what you know now. Any pearls of wisdom?

Re: Summer Associate Class of 2015: Get on In
I probably would have tried to do work for a wider variety of partners/touched more practice areas. I thought I knew what I wanted when I started the summer, and I definitely enjoyed the things I worked on, I just happened to enjoy some areas that I didn't expect to enjoy.zacharus85 wrote:By this time last year the SA thread was well into fretting about no-offers. Otherwise I think it is hard for you to mess things up. Don't be a jerk. Don't overpromise. Expectations on you are super low. I thought I did very poorly on a BS research assignment, but the expected value of my work was literally nothing, so it was impossible to disappoint.
Conversely, I remember a lot of people in last year's thread saying that there's absolutely no way anything a summer touches has any significance, &c., and maybe I'm still naïve, but I don't think that's true everywhere.
Finally, it's probably a good time to work on pro bono stuff, research for pitches, &c., because nobody cares whether you're billing as a summer. So, you can work on some of the fun non-billable projects that you'll probably try to avoid as an associate.

Smaug tips are nice and all, but you should really be asking BD for advice.zacharus85 wrote:By this time last year the SA thread was well into fretting about no-offers. We need to catch up, people.
