Stay strong buddy. Non-NY offices tend to take longer. Plus, there are lots of callbacks still going out.Anonymous User wrote:Still no CB's here. About half a dozen dings via e-mail. Any thoughts on whether 7 CBs is enough to reasonably hope for one offer? Not sure if I should be mass mailing. Hoping it's not too late for that in case I should be.

Not that big a difference in number really. Especially considering people seem to have many more...Hopefully I am allowed to feel nervous as wellAnonymous User wrote:Seriously? Right there with you, buddy. Only have 1 CB, around the same amount of dings, and applied out of market for the most part. I am keeping up the hope, but I am also preparing for the mass mail insanity to begin. Best of luck.Anonymous User wrote:Still no CB's here. About half a dozen dings via e-mail. Everyone's allowed to feel nervous obviously, but reading this thread alone (not to mention talking to anyone else at our school) should teach you that worrying about "only" seven callbacks is probably unwarranted, and can be hurtful to most of us, who have nowhere near that number. Are all of your friends on LR?Anonymous User wrote:Not that big a difference in number really. Re: Columbia EIP 2012 Superthread
I apologize if I contributed to anyone else's anxiety, really not my intention. I was at 2 for many days before getting the rest, so I was unsure if people with one or two a few days ago had experienced the same thing. Anyway sorry again. I found the 18 interview person obnoxious and really didn't mean to behave in the same way if that's how it came across. Good luck to all.Anonymous User wrote:Everyone's allowed to feel nervous obviously, but reading this thread alone (not to mention talking to anyone else at our school) should teach you that worrying about "only" seven callbacks is probably unwarranted, and can be hurtful to most of us, who have nowhere near that number. I felt safe with eight last year. I am assuming NYC, right? Most NYC firms have offer:CB ratios of around .5.Anonymous User wrote:Any thoughts on whether 7 CBs is enough to reasonably hope for one offer? Not sure if I should be mass mailing. Hoping it's not too late for that in case I should be.
As it turned out three of the first five turned into offers, and I cancelled the other three bc I preferred the original offers. A little while later I got a fourth offer. Four out of five is unusually high, but I would feel safe with seven...prepare like crazy, though!

can you talk a little about "prepare like crazy." I ask because I had a really nice, really casual callback. Who knows if they liked me, but it certainly didn't feel like a test of my preparation, more my personality. Of course others could be different. So how should one prepare?somewhatwayward wrote:I felt safe with eight last year. I am assuming NYC, right? CBs range firm to firm and person to person. Some are casual, and some grill you. They are a lot about personality (your grades usually don't matter as much bc generally if you got the CB, they are okay with your grades). For casual CBs, I guess maybe you don't need prep, but how do you know ahead of time whether one will be casual. Even if it is casual, it can't hurt to impress with your knowledge about the firm. Knowledge shows interest. Preparation for me means scouring the internet for info about thew firm and making notes of anything I find interesting and can turn into a question. CB interviews are often longer than screeners (I mean each individual interview within a CB...several of mine were 30 min rather than 20 min, and they frequently went past 30 mins anyway), and you need to assume you are going to be asking questions the whole time.Anonymous User wrote:can you talk a little about "prepare like crazy." Preparation also means writing down answers to stock questions (why this firm, why lit or corp, why this city, did you like law school, do you have any questions, etc) and rehearsing your answers out loud several times. I also rehearse questions out loud. As I rehearse them, I modify my word choice and the information I am including. For example, when I interviewed with Skadden, I asked about their rotation program, but I didn't just say 'how do you like the rotation program?' I said 'I read that Skadden's hiring partner emphasizes that young associates should acquire a basic set of general lega skills rather than becoming specialists right away. I think this is important because it helps one to understand one's own specialty to understand how others intersect with it and because as some areas recede and others become more prominent, associates may need to shift practice areas. This is part of the reason Skadden has rotations. Can you tell me about your experience with the rotations - did it help you narrow in on an area of interest, and has understanding other practice areas helped you perform more competently within your own?' It was more articulate than that but you get the idea.
You are trying to make partners want you to work for them and associates want to work with you. Thus, with associates it is not about impressing as much as it is about getting a pleasant conversation going.

So what are the chances of getting a callback from an NYC firm at this point? I'm pretty much assuming that the callbacks I have now are the only ones I'll get.

I got a callback from a top NY firm today, until a rejection you can keep hope alive.Anonymous User wrote:So what are the chances of getting a callback from an NYC firm at this point? I'm pretty much assuming that the callbacks I have now are the only ones I'll get.

The preliminary results from CBs thus far this year seems much worse than last year.

I would concur with regards to NYC firms. Other markets seem about the same to me (but then again, I'm only going after two so I only speak anecdotally).

After multiple CB calls Thursday, Friday, Monday, and Tuesday, I had nothing Wednesday and Thursday and then got one today.Anonymous User wrote:So what are the chances of getting a callback from an NYC firm at this point?
