I just got an interview at a midlaw firm in a secondary market. T14, strong ties, non-diversity. Also just heard back from a state AG, saying they received my application (applied a week ago and this is the first I heard from them, so don't lose hope if you don't get a response right away to an application).

Got a call today to do a phone interview for a prominent PI group. The only problem is that it's in one of their field offices that was low on my priority list. Not sure how to feel...

Ok, so it took me a little longer than I expected but I got my biglaw offer!!!Anonymous User wrote:I will get back to you in 2 days. So here is some encouragement to you all: It can be done. Just market your skills that no one else has, show firms why you are valuable, and NETWORK NETWORK NETWORK. and be born a minority - that helps too.

Interview lined up with an NLJ 250 firm in my hometown (Midwestern secondary market). T14, non-URM. Fingers crossed.

Letter from a firm asking for a writing sample. Can I send it by email if they sent it by snail mail?

IDK what markets you both applied in but I have not had any trouble with that. I sent out resumes and cover letters by email on December 1st and heard back from a majority of the firms. I always thought email was the primary way these firms wanted to communicate.cowgirl_bebop wrote:So did you resubmit via snail mail? I missed a call from the courthouse this morning but they didn't leave a message... And the number is just for the general courthouse, not a specific judge
And I got another firm rejection.
2 down, 2 to go.

Do both. If the firm is sending through snail mail, looks like they might prefer snail mail to receive things, but you could send an email too and just say something like, "I have sent a hard copy of my writing sample through the mail. I have also attached a copy of my writing sample to this email in case you would like an electronic version."shoeshine wrote:Letter from a firm asking for a writing sample. Are you saying this because you haven't heard back? I think a lot of people haven't heard back, especially in major markets. In the smaller market I applied to, I heard back from 50%, and in the larger market, haven't heard back from a single employer.cowgirl_bebop wrote:So did you resubmit via snail mail? Re: The Official 1L Summer Employment Thread - 2012 Edition
Started hearing back from judges. Flurry of emails asking me for more info, expressing interest. Some want to wait for grades/writing sample. Others don't seem to care. One interview next week. Rest I haven't set up yet. For each email of interest, I'm getting 3-4 rejections. Also getting a few responses saying they will hire in February or March.
I haven't heard from the vast majority of the judges I mailed, although it's only been about a week and a half. I'm actually surprised how many I have heard from.

Interview request with a top firm. 2 grade request from 2 others. Maybe they are finally getting around to review all the applications.

So, Im starting to think I applied to too many judges. I ran the gamut in my home district and have 5 inteviews set up and a few that mailed me back saying they make their decisions in Feb - April.
Does anyone know about senior judges? My first interview is with a senior judge. It seems kind of cool because it seems like they give him interesting cases since all of his cases are published but idk. That makes me think he is doing more than supervising discovery and watching juries.

It's definitely not too many because once you get an offer you can canceled the rest. On the other hand, until you get an offer, you haven't applied to enough.AreJay711 wrote:So, Im starting to think I applied to too many judges. Just got a grade request and holiday reception invitation to V100. Is that anything special? (i.e. worth the airfare halfway across the country?)

Nothing is worth that airfare unless it is an interview. IMHO.AP-375 wrote:Just got a grade request and holiday reception invitation to V100. Is that anything special? (i.e. worth the airfare halfway across the country?)
The holiday receptions are usually open to anyone so it is not a big enough deal to fly across the country for.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
