Seems like it would be easier to go Chicago --> NYC than the other way around these days. Kind of counter intuitive. Both of those firms are legit in NYC too, wonder if you could do a summer in Chicago office and then go to either of their NYC offices full time if you got an offer (though I'm guessing that if you have insta-offers from Mayer and Sidley you probably have many NYC v10's going after your services).
I didn't ask Mayer or Sidley, but other firms seemed open to splitting the summer between their NYC and Chicago offices provided the hiring committees in both places approved.

Interesting, that would never have occurred to me. I got an offer from a V50 firm via phone call same day as the CB but never while I was still there, that's pretty badass, dood.

Has anyone received an offer from Sidley, say, a week after a CB? Is it on the spot or bust?

I don't know about Chicago, but there's no way NY is on the spot offer or bust. They did a ton of afternoon CBs that ended in a reception with 10-15 interviewees. They weren't pulling people aside during the reception to give them the nod.

I also received a Kirkland Chicago offer via phone yesterday. One week after the CB. It's tentatively #1 on my CB/offer list right now. Extremely happy!
