Just two weeks ago associates in Chicago were told that 2015 was best year ever for the office...would be rough if they follow that with a lol we can't match...Anonymous User wrote:Yeah, this. Very much doubt that JD will make official announcement or do a memo...compensation memos for next year come out at end of June, so likely that'll be how associates find out what's up.

I imagine that Ropes at least is going to move in the next few days. They are definitely under pressure in their NYC office (which competes for grads with firms like Willkie and, to a lesser extent, the v10s) and the Boston office is definitely under pressure from the v10s as well, particularly those with Boston offices (i.e. Skadden, Weil), both for recent grads and lateral hires. And Ropes is making a lot of lateral hires these days of people trying to leave NYC. I think the only firms that haven't matched yet that would help push Ropes Boston are WilmerHale and Latham.lionelhutz123 wrote:I've seen lists for DC, Houston, CA, and Chicago, but any list for firms with Boston offices that have matched? Off the top of my head: Skadden, Weil, Cooley...any others? Pretty sure the Boston-based places will be slow to move. Going to need pressure from other places with offices in the city, plus maybe Ropes/WH pressure from their NY and DC offices.

Uh what? Yeah, that's fine for the current associates. How will the law students know (especially at a firm where you get fired for discussing pay)? JD doesn't have to announce the first year salary if they don't want to -- but everyone will assume they're still at 160k for NY etc. If it went up, why would they not announce that?Anonymous User wrote:

Latham should move soon. Not sure what is holding them back.
I think you're going to be waiting on WH though.
I think people conflate prestige with profitability which fucks up the order here.
Wilmer is closer to Winston than it is to Latham for our purposes.
I wouldn't be surprised at all if Ropes moved before Wilmer. The prestigious DC firms just aren't as profitable as the NY firms. Schulte will probably move before any of these firms do.

Some actual LW associate may know best, but my buddy there speculates it has something to do with assembling their "AssComm" (as he calls it) to vote (apparently their Associates Committee -- which he said had a significant representation of associates -- has a say in comp decisions, so that's somewhat unique, especially compared to JD's authoritarian regime) and that they have their summer thing today/tomorrow, so they may be waiting to announce there.smaug wrote:Latham should move soon. LW cementing their place as the bottom of the V10! Last one in V10 to match/raise besides Wachtell. #1 profitable and #1 highest grossing firms have not yet announced. Feels backwards to me.

Can confirm AssCom having a call on it today. It's not a question of if, just when (as in today or tmrw).Anonymous User wrote:Some actual LW associate may know best, but my buddy there speculates it has something to do with assembling their "AssComm" (as he calls it) to vote (apparently their Associates Committee -- which he said had a significant representation of associates -- has a say in comp decisions, so that's somewhat unique, especially compared to JD's authoritarian regime) and that they have their summer thing today/tomorrow, so they may be waiting to announce there.smaug wrote:Latham should move soon. Given that WLRK bonus memos haven't gone out recently they might have upped comp without it leaking unless someone has asked someone at WLRK/ we have a WLRK anon here

Ugh. WH could probably move their NY office (only one I'm concerned about) if they didn't have to deal with the bitching that would happen from the two actual headquarter offices. But I'm starting to think it might be unlikely they can afford to move all offices or even NY/DC/Boston. I don't know if PPP is as important to them as other firms (at least not the end-all) but obviously it's the big factor in this. Being anchored to changing all or none is maybe not great Bob.smaug wrote:Latham should move soon. Not sure what is holding them back.

FF has to match right? They only have 2 offices in the US; I would have thought they moved quicker. Obviously asking for selfish reasons.

L&W will be announcing today. Internally, it has been understood that a revision in compensation is forthcoming "within 72 hours" of the Cravath statement. Latham has 2,200 attorneys and almost 30 offices; getting partners all over the world and Associates Committee members from different offices to vote on such a matter simply takes a bit longer.

Thank goodness we got the Barthalona Managing Partner's opinion on the topic before even-handedly deciding after much deliberation to do what Winston did more than 24 hours ago.Anonymous User wrote:L&W will be announcing today. WH is more likely to move their Dayton office to 180 than moving NY only.
WH will likely have to wait until someone in Boston moves. If Ropes goes in Boston, WH would have to move to 180 for all offices (except Denver?)

what's going on in LA. 16 of the top 20 firms on this list have yet to move, including the top 4.
Latham and Gibson must act.
