Weil NY ding from callback last week. Kind of expected it.
sorry to hear that. what makes you feel like it was expected?
Meh interviews with 2 people. 1 was weirdly aggressive about pushing me on my "Why Weil" to the point I couldn't really give more detail, and a partner and I just didn't click. I mentioned a couple Chambers rankings about practice areas (in the sense Weil had great rankings) and he seemed extremely turned off by that.
A similar experience for me also just resulted in a ding. I've had three callbacks and two screeners now and the partner interviews I did with Weil were definitely the most uncomfortable.

Reiterating the same. Have not heard back yet, but pretty sure we had the same partner interviewer at Weil.

What made them uncomfortable? Have a callback at Weil tomorrow

One in particular was just very stiff and neither seemed to want to be there at all from the beginning. More behavioral/specific questions than I've gotten in any other interviews, too.

How detailed should the answer to "Why Weil" be? Shouldn't naming one or two notable transactions be enough?

I’m about a week deep from an stb callback…should I call it quits or hold out some hope
After my interview last week, I'm planning on giving up hope if I don't hear anything this Friday. Seems like a lot of offers go out on Friday. Not holding out much hope. One of my interviews was pretty awkward.

Crickets. My schools OCI data shows more DC firms and slots than January though.

Same here, haven't heard anything. Thinking that maybe more firms will send out interviews after the July 4th weekend.

I figured there was a pretty low chance the email even gets read in the first place since the subject clearly identifies it as a thank you email. but still nervous that an interview that otherwise went very well is tanked by my dumb bitch speeding through thank you's

I saw an associate who commented on thank you notes before - most of the time, they’ve already submitted their evaluations before you send anything.

Whoever is responsible for firms starting to ask for dumb personality/skills assessments is a bad person. First Latham, now Skadden, wtf.

Every firm in the V20 does a solid amount of WSJ-front page work, so you need to do a bit more if you get that Q. If you want Weil RX, like that's pretty obvious "why Weil", but otherwise having an actual "Weil" hook will help. I don't work there but telling me that you like that they're band 1 or 2 or whatever in general NY corporate just doesn't come across as terribly well thought-out.

If you get a cb with a firm I recommend contacting either a 2L from your school currently summering with them or a bar-prepping recent grad who is headed there. They can really help you with this stuff.

Literally what else are we supposed to say. Weil as a firm is going to be 100% interchangeable with pretty much every other firm in that range. They'll have marginally better or worse practice groups for certain things. Whoopee. Even firms with marquee practices don't place the majority of their associates in that group. So unless you talked to a person in the firm previously you're stuck repeating garbage from their recruiting materials. And if you do talk to a person at the firm, they're just going to say the same good things about the firm every other person at every other firm you've spoken to says. I'd know, I've done like twenty of those calls by now. Unless they say bad things about the firm, in which case obviously you're not going to repeat that (or hopefully even apply to the firm).

Unless a firm is literally substantively different (ala Quinn only doing lit for example) then any answer to "why our firm" that asks a candidate to go beyond basic regurgitation of information they found online is stupid and honestly a red flag that the firm drinks their own kool-aid too much.

You are going to do horribly at OCI with that attitude. Review Vault, Chambers Associate, firm websites, and speak with alums and 3Ls at firms to figure out what firms pride themselves on.

That's duh and exactly what I'm doing. But that doesn't mean I can't recognize it's idiotic. Almost no one at the rising 2L level is going to be able to go into any real detail about actual differences between random V10 number 1 and random V10 number 2. What you're saying is exactly what I said is all we can do: review generic marketing material, look at overly simplified rankings/ratings, and talk to people who will basically tell us to be personable and that the firm prides itself on [thing I already found on their recruiting website].

Have a friend that interviewed STB Thursday and was offered this morning.
Approx school/rank?

to the other tuesday interviewee - same
School: MVP
Grades: Honestly don't know. They are private and too polite to share but seem to do well in class (fwiw- take that with a grain of salt).
Update: same person also offered V15 earlier today, interviewed last Thursday

Seriously? What are you waiting for?

Now there's a charge.
