Hai guise! I'm an excitable 3L heading to biglaw next year (I won't say where but I will say I plan to wear my bag LOGO OUT). I heard from a friend that the best firms (mine is the third best in the country) will be raising the starting salary to $190,000 and that all the associates ALSO receive generous bonuses (as if all the sweet firm swag wasn't enough, amirite???) around the end of December.

The thing is that I went to YHS (it always peeved me off that people write them out of order all the time) because of how prestigious it was. So my question to everyone is: what is the current conversion rate for dollars to prestige? I mean, I know an extra $30,000 should in theory buy me more prestige but what if ALL firms (even the bad ones that people seem to ENJOY anyway) make their salaries $190,000? Won't that just devalue the prestige exchange rate? And one more question: how prestigious is one cheese plate? When I summered at my firm, associates were allowed to order dinner delivered right to the office (paid for by the firm, can you believe it?!?!) so I was thinking that if cheese plates are really prestigious, I could harvest the prestige by ordering two or three cheese plates for dinner every night. Will that give me enough prestige to run for United States Supreme Court Chief Justice?
