Depends on the firm but just by looking at some of the firms' 1L classes, you can tell looks definitely didn't hurt.
Can't hate though. "If you got it..."

Look at the 6 girls that worked at Andrews Kurth Houston and tell me there isn't at least a legitimate bias towards good looking girls, even if that's the only firm where it exists.Anonymous User wrote:"exceptionally attractive" ha. But my situation is little different than most people's so..
if i could share w/o being exposed i would have done it already. so
Sorry if this is all entirely obviously, but the point is you are more than your GPA/rank.

Shit's definitely real. There is no question. People who get 1L SAs are 1) Texas natives with very good grades or experience, and 2) Hot girls.

multiple, multiple examples of people who got 1L SAs and did not fit these categories. I'm sure this happens don't get me wrong, but I would say that for 80% of people it was good gradesAnonymous User wrote:Shit's definitely real. There is no question. Well of course. To state it another way: If you were going to pick an identifiable group of people who had 1L SAs who were not Texas natives with good grades, the next most identifiable group -- by a considerable margin -- was hot girls.

I'm pretty sure there's a lot more to life than being really, really, ridiculously good looking. For example, you can open a center for kids who can't read good.Anonymous User wrote:"exceptionally attractive" ha. While I was one of the ones who agreed that being attractive is definitely a boost, I don't think these groups are mutually exclusive. I mean, knowing most of who I'd guess you guys are referring to as "hot girls" that got 1LSAs, I can guarantee you that they also did well in class (either from personal knowledge or through the grapevine). Soft skills such as looks, URM, or work experience are exactly that; softs. They're nice to have if you're in the ballpark of qualifications, but they won't save you if you didn't do your homework. Plenty of hot girls, minorities, and former business people (who even had good grades) w/o 1LSAs from our class.Anonymous User wrote:Well of course. That doesn't explain the hot girls who got multiple biglaw 1L SA offers **before first-semester grades even came out**. When "softs" are all the employers have to look at December of 1L year, the value of being hot and sweet jumps appreciably.Anon wrote:Soft skills such as looks, URM, or work experience are exactly that; softs. this still does not overturn the statement that being hot isn't exclusive to having good grades. since everybody is actually debating this issue, here is my 2 cents: you assumed that those girls had nothing else backing them but good looks before the grades came outAnonymous User wrote:That doesn't explain the hot girls who got multiple biglaw 1L SA offers **before first-semester grades even came out**. Right - I don't think anyone is saying that looks and grades are mutually exclusive, or that the applicants "had nothing else going for them"; I just think that in the case of pre-grade offers based solely on what you're calling "softs", the incremental value of good looks and a great personality could be significant.
