If something asks for "references" but it doesn't specify how many, is one reference enough?

I was told 3 but no idea where that number comes from. I would put at least two if it's asking for pluralKimikho wrote:If something asks for "references" but it doesn't specify how many, is one reference enough?

So I know my legal research & writing prof said she would write one, but with large section sizes I'm not that comfortable asking my 1L profs. Is it fine to use undergrad prof/employer LOR's?BigZuck wrote:I was told 3 but no idea where that number comes from. I can't imagine it wouldn't be, especially for employers.sims1 wrote:So I know my legal research & writing prof said she would write one, but with large section sizes I'm not that comfortable asking my 1L profs. Ugh, I'm not anywhere near close with any of my professors (I think only one actually knows my name) and no one at my employer for the previous 3.5 years can be a reference since they have a policy against discussing former employees in any way.

Not even LRW? That's what I did, since with the small class size I at least interacted with the professor in some way.BmoreOrLess wrote:Ugh, I'm not anywhere near close with any of my professors (I think only one actually knows my name) and no one at my employer for the previous 3.5 years can be a reference since they have a policy against discussing former employees in any way.

What's the TLS conventional wisdom on filling out several of the applications that require you to select a single office of a particular firm if you are open to working in two or more of their office locations?
Is this allowed or will it result in an auto-ding if they find out you're doing this?

I doubt it. 95% of our interactions were with either law fellows or the librarian. All of our comments and stuff came from law fellows. If I get a decent grade I guess I'll hit her up (if we ever get grades back).TheSpanishMain wrote:Not even LRW? Doesn't seem worth it, you live and die and breath only one city and can't fathom being anywhere else IMOSheriff wrote:What's the TLS conventional wisdom on filling out several of the applications that require you to select a single office of a particular firm if you are open to working in two or more of their office locations?

Just choose the biggest office or the one with your best ties or the one that hires the most 1L SAs. Hopefully that's the same place.
I mean, realistically 1L SAs won't happen for the vast majority so doesn't really matter what you do this go around but you don't want to ruin your OCI narrative and get caught in a lie if you get to that point
Of course YMMV I guess

Interview went well today, I'm supposed to send in my transcript ASAP once grades are in which is a good sign I think.
Also got dinged at a different DC firm, but they invited me to their pre OCI reception over the summer, so that's ok? Lol.

You already got a grade back? I thought B- was basically nonexistent at your school.BizBro wrote:Any hope of getting a 1L SA with a B- fall grade?

Definitely employer is fine, doubt UG prof would be an issue either. I would also just ask your LS profs. Part of their job is to do it. It will be awkward at first, but worst they can say is no.sims1 wrote:So I know my legal research & writing prof said she would write one, but with large section sizes I'm not that comfortable asking my 1L profs. Did you ask your former boss(es) yet or are you just aware of the policy? My employer technically didnt allow it but I asked my boss and she was happy to serve as one.BmoreOrLess wrote:Ugh, I'm not anywhere near close with any of my professors (I think only one actually knows my name) and no one at my employer for the previous 3.5 years can be a reference since they have a policy against discussing former employees in any way.

And yeah one of the sections already has a grade back. Not mine.
And somewhere between 3-10% will have a B- or lower.

A bit off topic, but since we're on the subject of grades I was wondering how we get them back? This may seem like a dumb question, and I suppose it may vary by school, but I honestly have no clue whether we will get an email, or it is posted on our online class portals, or what.

Varies by school. At mine you check it like you did in undergrad (go to portal, go to grades). Some profs seem to email though.Sheriff wrote:A bit off topic, but since we're on the subject of grades I was wondering how we get them back? Yea i happened to be the fuck up with the B-. So I'm pretty much going to be below median this semester no matter what. I was applying to diversity SAs but pretty disheartened right now.phillywc wrote:Scott don't be a jerky face.scottidsntknow wrote: You already got a grade back?
