what proportion of our class do you guys think is still without an offer? although the season is far from over, it seems to me that we are not doing as well as last year's class.

Nope, I'm upstate born and raised.
Say you love Ithaca and love NYC because it has the best legal work. I interviewed for Jersey firms and got a callback even though I'm not from Jersey. Just do some research. New York is a great state, so it shouldn't be too difficult.
When interviewing with Upstate firms you'd best show absolutely no affection for NYC. Ideally, act like you despise it. Recruiting committees at upstate firms are terrified of giving an offer to someone who's going to leave for NYC at the first opportunity. They don't want to be anyone's second choice, and would rather give the gig to someone who's top 5% at buffalo/Syracuse/Albany whose first choice was upstate.
