WTF i know for a fact ppl are sitting on multiple offers to Seattle firms. I dont see what the point of this is I mean I understand if you are truly torn, but if you are just collecting them your really being a d-bag. Someone said o well im waiting to hear from the firm I really want-ok well if u have 4 offers choose the 1 of those 4 you want and cut the other 3 loose. You dont have to accept the other until you hear back from your top choice, but just hanging on to firms you know you wont accept at this point puts ppl in a tough spot.

anyone know of offers still pending? Do Seattle firms follow the 28 day/Nov 1 guideline? Particularly interested if ppl are still sitting on offers from K&L Shwabe Cozen itd be sweet to get out of the waiting pool

Two people accepted Cozen offers. Not sure how many other offers are out, but can't be many. Personally did not do a CB there, but was told they take 2.

Not that this will necessarily help anyone this cycle, for posterity's sake--some info is personal, others was gleaned by observation.

This year:
2 UW students accepted at Perkins
1 UW at DWT (at least 1 other DWT offer went out to a UW student, but wasn't accepted) They usually have 1-2 UW students.
2 accepted at GSB
1 accepted (I know of at G&D)
K&L kept a couple of UW students until very recently on a WL, don't know if any UWers ultimately will be going there this year
Hillis had someone in very early for a callback after OCI, and then radio silence for a while

Maybe a naive question, but if Seattle is extremely insular, does that insularity work against the "up or out" culture that dominates most law firms?

In other words, does the fact that there are so few summer associate/entry level positions in Seattle mean that those who land one get to stay for a longer time than they would in other markets?

Just wrapped up a SA at a Seattle-headquartered firm and accepted a permanent offer (so first hand knowledge, but a tad biased towards my firm). I would say this is the case. NW firms have much lower leverage ratios than East Coast (or even California) big firms. Young associates are seen more as an investment than a short-term way to rack up billable hours (and for most matters NW firms lose their competitive advantage against bigger national firms if they were to throw a ton of doc review associates at a project).

So my feel was that there isn't really an up-or-out culture, or if there was (and if so it was well-hidden) it is substantially later than the the 3-4 year average at bigger firms.

Any insight appreciated. If the desired employment goal is Seattle Big Law (and you have ties to the PNW), all else equal, is attending a T14 or UW the better choice?

Current third year associate in CA biglaw. Strong grades at one of HYS, prior d. ct. clerkship.

My SO is likely going to be moved to Seattle for work in about 1-2 years. I would be a fourth or fifth year looking to make the jump. Apart from SO's job, neither of us have no ties to Seattle, other than some friends from college. Relocation would be likely to be permanent, so I'm trying to gauge now what chances I have at getting a firm or government gig in the area.

I mostly do lit and labor/employment work, and would have strong recs from my current firm, which doesn't have an outpost in the city.

Am I totally hosed, given how insular Seattle is? Should I be trying to lateral to a firm in my current market that has a Seattle office?

Nope. It's a hot market and hiring.
