The Kelley Drye thing makes even less sense though since afaik they don't pay market (I believe 1st years start at 145k). So why bother chest thumping about not following cravath et al?

They were paying $160k in NYC since 2007, but may not have paid market for midlevels (and sure as shit weren't paying market bonuses). They've also bled PPP; I think they were over $1M at some point but are apparently down to $780k. So it makes sense that they'd eventually have to cry uncle; but LOL at broadcasting your failure to compete like that. Shit, it's okay if you can't bench two plates, but I wouldn't announce it to the whole locker room.

His quote was meant for clients. He is probably of the view the market for lawyers is over saturated and he will still be able to recruit good enough people.

Question for everyone receiving news from their firms: are incoming associates starting this fall (coming off a clerkship or C/O 2016) getting emails with the news from the firm itself, or hearing indirectly?

C/O 2016 going to PW, and I didn't get anything directly.

STB incoming associates got a separate email a few hours after the match bumping us up to 180 (for 2016 and the requisite bumps for advanced standing - MBAs/Clerkships). The email had the memo sent to current associates attached. Summer associates apparently got a shorter email bumping them up to $3500/wk.
