Yeah, this thread is kind of a bummer, and I was feeling okay about OCI prior to this.Anonymous User wrote:As someone with less than 4, I now feel twice as worse.Clemenceau wrote:Agreed. 4 is a very low ceilingAnonymous User wrote:To be honest I think 4 is a pretty low bottom. Granted, it was a few years ago, but I only had 2 biglaw cbs and landed an offer. So don't give up hope. It only takes one!

Re: What the hell is going on
I agree that four is a low ceiling in general, but I think the poll was made to figure out how many people are close to striking out, not how many callbacks people have generally.
In any case, it seems to me that strikeouts aren't actually as common as this thread originally made it seem.

Re: What the hell is going on
Basically no one here knows whether they struck out yet or not. I know I have had almost 30 screeners over the past 10 days, I have one callback scheduled but i've only been dinged by 2 offices (both very small). Is there a chance that my cycle is done? Sure. But there is also a chance that (because I am applying in secondary markets with smaller classes, and not at the top school feeding into the market) I may still end up with another few chances once top choices make some final decisions.

IDK about you but I 66% of my oci screeners have been confirmed dings. I had 30ish, 4 cbs and 20 dings. Waiting on a few more that have sent out cbs to others but radio silence. So essentially my oci is over. This is has been my experience at Duke and my friends. The dings are rolling in hard lately, almost always by email (heard of 1 letter but thats it).Anonymous User wrote:Basically no one here knows whether they struck out yet or not. This experience has not just been me, its been a group of close friends of mine as well. Our collective gpas range from median to about top 25% or so, journal for everyone, etc. Everyone is in the same boat. The top 25% or so person has 5 cbs and a vast amount of ding emails. The median people are hovering around 2-3 callbacks or so also with a ton of ding emails. At least in our case, there does not appear to be a lot of waiting around by other firms. Sure there are a handful we each haven't heard from, but it isn't a large number.kingpin101 wrote:If you don't mind me asking, what does your GPA look like?Anonymous User wrote:IDK about you but I 66% of my oci screeners have been confirmed dings. Edit: just heard back from a friend in the top 10%. This person has 15+ cbs lined up and has said he/she has not heard back either way from the other 10 or so screeners. So this may just be a top of the class problem not hearing back with rejections.

Re: What the hell is going on
Some yes some no. In my case I split 50/50. My cbs are mostly dc and the rejections have tended to come from NYC firms. Some dc rejections but all mine that I have radio silence on are all DC places. This is consistent with my friends as well. We all did about 50/50 split with one exception doing more dc heavy.Anonymous User wrote:I'm guessing you and your friends bid largely DC?Anonymous User wrote:This experience has not just been me, its been a group of close friends of mine as well. Re: What the hell is going on
Did a CB two weeks ago and they said I should get a response last week. Nothing came so I expected a ding in the snail mail, e-mail today. All I got today was a form asking me to give them my race and vet status. Think I still have a chance?

For what it's worth, a partner at a callback today told me that they had called back fewer people this year and are intending to have a smaller summer class.

Only takes 1. Take heart.
I only got three CBs but one of them resulted in a Gibson callback and offer.
I am in a slightly different boat because of a joint-degree program but seriously, no need to hoard callbacks--just work really hard to convert them!

each ding email is like a kick to the gut. ''we met you, but didnt really like you'' (especially true when my GPA is way over their standard).
So far, I have 1 CB. Chances I can turn it into an offer?

You're surprised that tlsers are faux overreacting as a thinly veiled ploy for affirmation that they're not failures?cron1834 wrote:Wow, the voting surprises me after reading this (and a couple other) threads lately.

Re: What the hell is going on
The poll results are pretty funny. I gave the TLSers credit at the beginning of thread when everyone was bitching and thought that this might be different with the move to 180 and pre-OCI. I now see that the whining was uncalled for and this looks like about the same as last year, with the shutouts being more vocal earlier this year. Four callbacks doesn't guarantee anything, but it gives a great shot at biglaw. I was getting the vibe earlier in this thread that T6 median wasn't getting many CBs, but that is clearly not the case. Of course lower tier T14 at median has always been hit or miss, but the concerns of this thread were clearly overstated.
