Good questions to ask at the end of a judicial internship interview?

I just had an interview for a judicial internship. Beyond the basic "how are cases distributed/work stuff" I asked her who her mentors were coming out of law school to now on the bench and what she learned from them. I know some people ask about a difficult or interesting case they judge has worked on.

I will say the interview was very different from normal job interviews. It was less formal, especially the interview with the clerks.

I had a firm interview and it was pretty casual, as our CSO told us. There were a few dumb questions - what's your fave movie, etc. - but on the whole it was not a stressful situation.

I believe the general format for callbacks is to have several (4-5) back to back interviews with attorneys followed by a lunch that is also part of the interview, but usually with younger associates (they still evaluate you though, so don't get crazy at lunch. ha). I had a CB yesterday and it was 4 30-minute interviews followed by lunch with two younger associates. The questions were behavioral type questions (like "tell me about a time when X; what did that experience teach you about yourself"). Very conversational. Only one attorney even referenced my resume.

I'm not sure if all firms use behavioral interview questions, but I'm pretty sure they use a similar structure for the interviews.

Also got the email but am not URM. It's the same ethnicity/protected veteran/disability information that I had to fill out for every other application. Dunno if Skadden only sent to specific applicants though

This is generally correct, but it's worth noting how much the interviews can vary by firm or interviewer. Some firms make their interviewers ask behavioral questions but many don't. Your resume will come up heavily in some interviews as well, so you should know it backwards and forwards and be prepared to talk about anything on it. A lot of interviews will be quite informal, but they can also be punishing if you wind up in front of the wrong interviewer. I found it helpful to look up lists of potential interview questions and rehearse the answers—you'll occasionally get a hugely open-ended question like "tell me something I should know about you that isn't on your resume", and the only "wrong" answer is not having a perfect anecdote ready to go.

Re: number of interviewers. Callbacks are typically 4-8, but more often 5 or 6. I had one that was only 3, and I've heard of others with as many as 10. Some firms do the lunch with associates shtick; plenty don't. While there is definitely a basic format to these things, it's good to stay on your toes, because every once in a while someone will throw you a curveball and the whole point of these interviews is to see how you handle yourself, how you deal with stress, whether they can put you in front of a client, etc.
