I think the one thing I've been a little dissapointed with pretty quick is the group I'm in. I was a borderline candidate and got sorta lucky, so it wasn't like I had a chocie. But, I can tell that the work maybe isn't for me (the people are great though). At least I know that early, and can plan ahead.

You might want to give it more than a day before making this sort of assessment. On the other hand, you're drinking buddies with the global managing partner and a name partner, so maybe you should just demand now to be moved to the group of your choice.flawschoolkid wrote:I think the one thing I've been a little dissapointed with pretty quick is the group I'm in. Re: Summer Associate Class of 2015: Get on In
We're just having some fun. To be honest, I think I would have been a little starstruck myself if, during my first day as a summer, I ended up talking with two of the leaders of my large law firm. But DF is right: this kind of thing isn't unusual. Even at a large firm, you'll likely have more chances to embarrass yourself in front of a named or managing partner.flawschoolkid wrote:I'm never gonna live that stupid comment down, haha. Really excited to start on Monday. Kind of weird being back at the bottom of the professional totem pole tho.
Eh, as a discovery vendor I guess I wasn't even a real person to the associates. Even contract attorneys got snotty sometimes.

My firm sent out an email telling us to prepare some "interesting facts" about ourselves to share with out colleagues.
TLS, what are your go-to interesting facts about yourselves?
(This is to stimulate discussion, not insinuate that I am anxious or serious about this).

Should I be emailing the recruiter to ask details for what time/where to go/what to wear on the first day? I start Monday and haven't heard anything except who my summer mentor is and filled out some surveys about favorite kinds of food and activities.

So, if you were at my firm, I (and probably some others) would have a slightly better impression of you because you didn't wear a suit. You'll seem less young and less insecure. I mean, this shit doesn't really matter, but if it cuts in any direction, it's in your favor.sublime wrote:BigZuck wrote:(doesn't get it)jselson wrote:This thread has literally been 11 pages of people worrying about whether suits are okay for first day.

Hey no, but seriously. We need someone to George Huey's Lennie.

Lol Seriously though, suited up first day, lady says business casual. Cool.
Show up second day in business casual as the only motherfucker not wearing a suit.

Not k-cup, but similar type of machine. Gets rid of the used coffee pack for you and the water doesn't require refilling. Also has settings for tea. Had a dark blend that was good, will update after I taste more varieties.BigZuck wrote:TYFTLazyLASA wrote:Obviously, this is the most important thing about an office.BigZuck wrote:This is the type of stuff I'm interested in. There are definitely good K Cups, you just have to find them. If you like dark, bold coffee, true Van Houtte Eclipse Blend. That being said, there is definitely WAY better coffee out there.
