The fact that anyone has ever done this makes me very sad for my species

random question, but is it most likely that someone in the office will take us to lunch on the first day? I'm in NYC and working out of Manhattan, not sure what the local spots are like and was frankly planning on brown-bagging it most days. but just curious as to what to expect.

They'll either cater lunch or take you out.

If you're brown bagging it most days, you're doing the summer associate thing wrong.

You are almost certain to be taken out to a very nice (and long) lunch every day. Enjoy. Be prepared to gain at least 5 pounds. Be aware this will have zero resemblance to what life as an associate will be like.

how do you all write the time management narratives? use these circumstances as an example: go to partner's office. partner gives brief overview of the assignment and then of the legal issues.

That actually brings up an issue, different firms probably want slightly different things. Like we're not supposed to use past tense.

My firm told us clients don't like to see "meeting" for some reason, so we were instructed to write something along the lines of "office conference with P. Artner regarding XYZ."

Just curious, what's the point of your shitposting ITT? This is a new experience for us; allow us to relish it while we can.

I bet that there was a point in time when your Blackberry buzzed in the middle of the night and you were actually excited to get summoned to the firm. I don't know how many years it takes for that excitement to wear off, but there's no need for you to try to rush the process. I'm sure we'll be like you - a bitter, petulant and jaded associate - soon enough.

You give some good advice every now and again, and I appreciate it when you do. Nonetheless, you're a bit too fond of taking your frustrations out on an Internet message board. Find a different hobby.
This. Appreciate the advice but leave it at that please. We don't benefit from being harassed for being young, inexperienced, neurotic, naive, etc.

That was advice.
Don't act like an over eager puppy at work on the weekend. If it is annoying here, I'm sure at least some of the people you work with are rolling their eyes.

The thread is an outlet for all the crazy that goes on in our head but we don't want to outwardly express. The whole making fun of summers thing works against that. Chilling effect and whatnot.

Also, if it's not obvious, people act differently on the internet than they do in the real world.

It's almost like there's no middle ground between two extremes. Isn't there a phrase for that? It's really escaping me.
