I spoke to Irene last week and, when pressed, she said that NYC firms do tend to over-callback NYU students because it is free for them. She said that ITE only people with like 8+ callbacks from EIW can really feel secure. Makes me worry about my 3 (which I had assumed sufficient, though not stellar obviously).

I spoke to several people on Friday who only had one or zero- though that could have changed over the weekend. I think tomorrow a bunch more will start rolling in.Anonymous User wrote:I have only one. I there anyone here with one or none?
Also I wouldn't be surprised if Irene/OCS is trying to panic us. According to someone at OCS, strike a match was so intense because they were trying to scare us into doing our research for EIW. I'm wondering if now they're trying to scare us again so that we really prep for callbacks and do targeted mailers.

Wouldn't that be equally true for Columbia students? And we have that data and it doesn't look like most places have an outrageously low callback to offer ratio.Anonymous User wrote:I spoke to Irene last week and, when pressed, she said that NYC firms do tend to over-callback NYU students because it is free for them. Well, the Wall Street firms are way closer to Greenwich Village than they are to Morningside Heights.Anonymous User wrote:Wouldn't that be equally true for Columbia students? This was a joke.
But yeah, I think there's a difference between being secure and being comfortable. I'd bet anything that the overwhelming majority of people who get 1 offer probably get more than 1, so the lines are a bit blurred in terms of turning callbacks into offers. Regardless, I think that Irene is saying it would be almost unprecedented for someone to go 0-8, but that doesn't mean 0-3, 0-4, or 0-5 are particularly likely outcomes.

My GPA is below yours (closer to 3.4), and I'm also straight through, so no significant professional experience. My guess is some combination of interview skills and luck.

For the person who got a callback from Shearman, mind sharing interviewer's initials? Was it New York?
+1 re Shearman. Interviewer's initials?

Re: NYU EIW Madness 2013
It's important to know that a) a bunch are coming tomorrow and even Tuesday - Thursday and b) they will continue to trickle in as 3.6/law review people start canceling/declining. Having 3 myself (one of which was outside EIW), I would assume that 5-6 is the most likely scenario, especially when there's been only a little movement from Thursday firms, barely any from Friday firms, and even many smaller and/or non-NY firms from Wednesday that haven't even started.Anonymous User wrote:Well, the Wall Street firms are way closer to Greenwich Village than they are to Morningside Heights.Anonymous User wrote:Wouldn't that be equally true for Columbia students? Don't worry about things you can't control. If the firm gave you a callback, at the very least you have a shot at getting an offer. Just do your best. You should be doing your best at interviews regardless of whether the offer rate is 100% or 10%.
