what the above poster said about markets is true, but either way, you should be mass mailing.

So I take it that if I haven't heard back from Weil, Latham, Debevoise, Paul Weiss, and DPW (all NY) by now, I should be expecting dings pretty soon?

Any template for mass mailing?

my recommendation is to paste a short cover letter in the email (see template below) and then attach resume and transcript. email it to the recruiter, and in the subject line put 'Columbia 2L (Stone - if applicable) seeking SA position'. begin with NLJ 250 firms in your target markets that did not come to EIP, then ones that did come to EIP, then smaller firms you find on NALP. here is the template:

Dear Ms. ________,

I am [a Stone scholar, if applicable] entering my 2L year at Columbia Law School, and I am interested in a summer associate position at _________ in New York City. I am attaching my resume and my transcript for your consideration.

This summer I was a legal intern at ________. At ________, I [describe what you did; eg, interviewed clients, conducted legal research, and wrote memoranda]. At Columbia Law School, I [insert relevant extracurriculars or journal stuff; eg, I am participating in a transactional clinic, and I am also a member of the Human Rights Law Review.]

I would welcome the opportunity to interview with _________. Please feel free to contact me at (xxx) xxx-xxxx or joelawstudent@lawschool.edu. I appreciate your consideration, and I hope to hear from you soon. Thanks _______

you can add a little more detail in the second paragraph than my example

you could be in a no-man's range where lower ranked firms think you'll get higher-ranked ones, and you just miss the cutoff at higher-ranked firms. also, the new curve is probably throwing some firms for a loop. they may be less impressed by "good grades." what does "well in school" mean? 3.4x? 3.5x?

Are you still in the clear if you don't have a ding? Did anyone even hear from Weil? I thought they were all busy with their crazy tour of 4 different law schools in one week.

Dings for McKinsey and Bingham Boston TC. My phone started buzzing and got my hopes up, but it was just text-spam about a class action payout. At least something legal is going my way.

Not that I expect my comment to have any effect, but here I go: It is still too early to freak out. Most firms haven't finished sending out callbacks yet. Even at the end of next week there is still hope. The only firms you know for sure you didn't get are the ones that ding you. Go enjoy summertime in New York instead of checking TLS.
