Was told by career services that less than 10 people at my T10 got "referrred to components" for SLIP positions

Re: DOJ SLIP 2010
Are you sure they didn't mean selected as finalists? My career adviser (at a T14) said she just received a report from DOJ yesterday that listed finalists, but never mentioned hearing anything at earlier stages. For what it's worth, it doesn't sound like there are more than a couple other finalists.Anonymous User wrote:Was told by career services that less than 10 people at my T10 got "referrred to components" for SLIP positions

I'm not the same poster, but I'm in the same situation. I think we can give up now. I ran into someone from career services last Friday who said one of the SLIP applicants she knew had already advanced with the Civil Rights Division. The student is no one I know and I didn't ask for details, but I have to assume this means it's over for those of us still stuck at "application received."Anonymous User wrote:Nope, still at "application received", you?Anonymous User wrote:Has anyone who applied through SLIP heard back from Civil Rights yet?
Unless, of course, we get selected by these people:

I interviewed with DOJ Civil Rights on 10/15. I haven't heard anything since then. Does the prior post mean that they have finished extending offers?

Re: DOJ SLIP 2010
As far as I'm aware, the offer extending process has just begun (assuming you're talking SLIP and not Honors). The previous post from the DOJ website was talking about people who weren't already at the "selected for further consideration" phase. Basically saying that almost all of the components had finalized their selections so if you weren't moved into the next phase you were probably out.Anonymous User wrote:I interviewed with DOJ Civil Rights on 10/15. Incidentally, while I don't really need to know, you seem to be the first poster to report any activity from Civil Rights. I think the other people here waiting on Civil Rights would appreciate knowing what your application status is showing right now...

Re: DOJ SLIP 2010
Anyone have any insight to what this whole finalist status is about? I don't understand how "selected for further consideration" is different from "finalist", considering there doesn't seem to be another round of reviews that go on past the further consideration stage.

Know of at least one offer being extended. Beyond that, I don't know.Anonymous User wrote:Anyone hear from Chicago Antitrust?

Re: DOJ SLIP 2010
I don't have a definitive answer, but it seems that some components designate finalists before making offers / interviewing people. Others only seem to designate finalists after interviewing / making offers. It is confusing.Anonymous User wrote:Anyone have any insight to what this whole finalist status is about? It almost seems "finalist" is synonymous for actually being selected, so I'm not sure why they don't just say that.

What makes you think that?

Re: DOJ SLIP 2010
Despite the apparent effects of progressing to "Finalist" status, this statement is definitely not true. I know plenty of people who have advanced to "Finalist" status who have not gotten offers / been selected. From someone who works in Civil Division: it is another independent stage of review / ranking applicants. It almost seems "finalist" is synonymous for actually being selected, so I'm not sure why they don't just say that.

Re: DOJ SLIP 2010
I stand corrected then. It just seems like everyone on here who progressed past "Application Received" have progressed to all subsequent stages so far, making me think they aren't really different stages at all. However, I have nothing to base this off of, and we may not be a very representative group.
Also, I'm worried that the fact I didn't rank the branch I'm "selected for further consideration" with first is going to nip me in the butt at one of these evaluation stages, so I wish they would just be done with.

yes that s what it looks like.
Re: SLIP interview decisions
Most of the SLIP notifications are out. However, an informal participant, the Office of Justice Programs (Office of Civil Rights), is still reviewing applications from candidates that originally designated the Civil Rights Division as an employment preference. We anticipate issuing regrets notices next week, but generally speaking, if you did not receive an email indicating that a component had selected you for consideration, you should shift your focus to other employment opportunities.
