I'm very interested to see the numbers after this year. I know generally Fordham places 30-30% into Big Law.

Yes, I got the call about an hour ago. 3/4 of my interviewers plus my OCI interviewer were Fordham grads. I got the call from the only non-fordham interviewer.

Congrats! Funny that it took 15 days - I'm sure other people would've given up hope by then and picked something else. Good that you held on. I can imagine there's going to be a lot of movement in the next few days. I'm personally picking an offer tomorrow and rejecting all other waitlists and offers - just don't want to wait it out anymore. The NALP deadline is in like 5 business days.

Congrats! Funny that it took 15 days - I'm sure other people would've given up hope by then and picked something else. Good that you held on. I can imagine there's going to be a lot of movement in the next few days. Nope. We all struck out. Not a single 2L got an offer this year.

I'm writing this so future transfers find this post, since Fordham's OCI is a big decision point for many considering the jump. I would post this in this year's Fordham transfer forum, but I can't do so anonymously.

First, it is true that Fordham will not let transfer students bid in Fordham's Early Interview Week when Fordham 1L's bid. I understand both sides of the issue, but it should be known that Fordham will not let transfers bid for BigLaw. Transfers do bid on mid-size, small, government, and non-profit OCI weeks 1-8 beginning in late August (after school starts). EIW is (mostly BigLaw) Early Interview Week, and OCI is On Campus Interviewing (in case you're like me and don't know the difference).

If a transfer wants to garner BigLaw interviews, they have to show up to school during the four days and give resumes, elevator speeches, and otherwise try to get an interview during a cancellation or an interviewer's scheduled break time. Fordham also has a program called the greeter program where you escort the interviewer to the room. I did not garner interviews via the greeter program, but Fordham's career services office says this is a successful program. I don't know if any of the transfers who have BigLaw offers got interviews via this program.

Although I'm pretty sure I know where I'm headed, I will decide very soon between two awesome Vault 50 firms. One is close to V50, the other is close to V25. The doors to both firms (and others) opened by showing up to the hospitality suite every morning, dropping resumes, and talking with interviewers. It goes without saying that the odds are stacked against you. However, my OCI began in the hospitality suite. So, it is possible. I've heard several other transfer students say that they too have BigLaw offers by doing this.

I do believe that the Fordham name places very well in BigLaw. I actually believe that 1/3 of each Fordham class (or higher) places out of law school into BigLaw. I was lucky to gain a spot on a nationally recognized Fordham journal (I think most Fordham journals are among the top-ten cited annually), which I think helped bump me up some firms' waitlist. Very few, if any, from my previous law school even had call-backs with NY BigLaw. Very few. So, I would definitely show up during Fordham's EIW next year, and I would definitely try to write-on to any journal possible.

As well, I read on top-law-schools about Fordham being cut throat. I have not experienced this. In fact, I think quite the opposite. People are friendly, and despite the stress of OCI, people are helpful and supportive towards one another. Students are very interested in learning the material presented (thus, class isn't a waste of time), and the professors seem to genuinely enjoy teaching. This is quite different from my previous law school. At Fordham, people have introduced themselves to me, I've already received several outlines from 3L's for certain professors, etc. Look at this post, and you'll see both: A.) students posting info as soon as possible, and B.) providing support in other ways to their fellow classmates who are competing for the same jobs.

To the transfer reading this, as you can tell I am very happy with my decision to attend. I think you should too if: A.) you want NY BigLaw, B.) your school does not place as well in NY BigLaw, and C.) you don't mind moving.

To Fordham classmates: firms are still deciding. Transfer writing competition results were announced this past week, and I received offers after I was accepted onto a journal. I think they're working through their list, and I think it's worth sending in emails of continued interest if you have anything (from externship acceptance to Moot Court placement) that's worth updating your application. If you haven't been dinged, I personally think it's beneficial to stay in touch every few weeks with the associate that's been responsive to you or the recruiting manager with whom you've dealt. I did for several firms, and I'm very lucky to be in the position I am. Best of luck!
