For those in the know, is Paul Weiss even prestigious enough to move NY to 190k?
Or would it take a v10 to shift the market?

if you were choosing between Paul Weiss at 190 and sullcrom/skadden/dpw at 160 what would you pick?bearsfan23 wrote:For those in the know, is Paul Weiss even prestigious enough to move NY to 190k?

Um, easy choice. Debt is only temporary, while prestige lasts a lifetime. So one of the v5 obviously.anyriotgirl wrote:if you were choosing between Paul Weiss at 190 and sullcrom/skadden/dpw at 160 what would you pick?bearsfan23 wrote:For those in the know, is Paul Weiss even prestigious enough to move NY to 190k?

I didn't go to law school to be stuck at some middling v15

Re: NY to 190k??(possibly led by Paul Weiss)
You guys saying it's got to be a V5 are very wrong. STB led the charge to 160, and others matched. And as someone who turned down most of the V5 firms to end up at a V10 shop, I can assure you that the pay would be enough for most people.
Simpson, Weil, Cleary, Latham, and Debevoise all swing a big enough bat to cause a market shift. But why would they?

You decided to go with a V10 instead of a V5? Just lol. That's even worse than turning down a V10 firm in favor of a V20. Your credibility is shot here.Anonymous User wrote:You guys saying it's got to be a V5 are very wrong. STB led the charge to 160, and others matched. I have heard through a responsible source that NYC is actually moving to 190. If so, that should mean that DC will follow in lockstep. To me that would make a huge difference, approximately 3K a month net. Can anyone confirm the 190 or that DC usually keeps pace with NYC?

Incoming first-year associate at a V10 very interested in this discussion—
Is this thread entirely a flame? Is the plain meaning of DF's words honest? Are the anonymous replies made in good faith, or on the implicit assumption that the discussion here merely repeats those had over the last eight years?
As an almost certainly unrelated aside, I'm familiar with incoming associates of at least one V10 that has offered to move the start date to mid-late September from mid-October. Of course, busyness has no correlate in salary.
