Writing Sample
The attached writing sample is an excerpt from a research memo prepared for my first-year Legal Research and Writing class.
The problem, as assigned by the professor, presented # issues in a ________ suit. The ultimate question was ___________.
To give you an accurate reflection of the quality of my work, I present the excerpt substantially as turned in on deadline, within page limits, and without outside assistance. The only subsequent edits are mine alone. The full memo is available at your request.

just ask your teachers, most will be more than happy to serve as a reference imeKimikho wrote:Thank you!Baby_Got_Feuerbach wrote:Kimikho wrote:When sending a writing sample from LRW, are people including a blurb about what that writing sample is about and stuff?Writing Sample

May not be the best way, for the sake of efficiency, but I hand-wrote.lawlskoolz wrote:For those who mass mailed for judicial internship positions, did you guys use address labels (type up the addresses and print them out) or did you handwrite each address?
I've got hundreds of letters to mail out and I have everything on excel. What's the best way to go about this?

Yeah I'm probably just going to do that. My OCS recommended against handwriting because it looks less professional, although I'm sure a lot of judges don't care. The best way is to "Mail Merge" the Excel document in Word. You just put all of your details like address, name, court/district, etc. in columns and then apply them to a label template in Word.Baby_Got_Feuerbach wrote:May not be the best way, for the sake of efficiency, but I hand-wrote.lawlskoolz wrote:For those who mass mailed for judicial internship positions, did you guys use address labels (type up the addresses and print them out) or did you handwrite each address?
I've got hundreds of letters to mail out and I have everything on excel. What's the best way to go about this?
1. In Word you go to the "Mailings" tab and then "Start Mail Merge"
2. Pick "Labels" and then click "Select Recipients" and pick "Use an Existing List" then you select your excel file.
3. Click "Insert Merge Field" and it should show you the column headers which you hopefully named something like "Title" "Address" etc. Put them in the order you need them on the labels with proper spacing.

Are you guys mailing out/mailed out your legal writing samples as double-sided documents or one sided documents? Does it even make a difference (especially for judicial internships...)?

Re: 1L Summer Job Search C/O 2017
IMO, it makes no difference. Depends on the judge; single-sided = you hate nature, double sided = you make things overly-complicated. It's a lose-lose situation unless you know the judge's personal preference. I applied to a lot of judges 1L summer, most that responded seeking interviews happened to be single-sided writing samples. Take that for what it's worth (nothing).lawlskoolz wrote:Thanks, appreciate the help.Avian wrote:My OCS recommended against handwriting because it looks less professional, although I'm sure a lot of judges don't care. That being said, check out Symplicity. Almost all 1L's at my school who were paid found their jobs via Symplicity or personal connections. Moral of the story = Symplicity for paying jobs (especially February - April)

All the summer jobs posted on my simplicity are "field placement externships"
I think those are unpaid positions for the summer....

For firm events being held in hometown over the break, is dress going to be the same as an interview? I'm thinking yes, but wanted to check.

No that's why I ask. One is at a firm, the other is a reception at a brewpub.arklaw13 wrote:It doesn't say on the invitation?esypsylmnsqsy wrote:For firm events being held in hometown over the break, is dress going to be the same as an interview? I'm thinking yes, but wanted to check.

At the firm, I'd say business formal.esypsylmnsqsy wrote:No that's why I ask. Brewpub, probably business casual but you're better off just asking the recruiter when you RSVP.

Re: 1L Summer Job Search C/O 2017
I got a rejection letter from a firm I mass-mailed last Dec 1 in July telling me I should reapply as a 2L. Also got an offer from something I applied to and interviewed for in January in early June. Other stuff moved really quickly and there was a lot in between. That is to say no such thing as "usual".jk148706 wrote:how long does it usually take to hear something after sending resume/cover letter ?
