Reading the OCI interview thread, said that not having your GPA on a resume gives him a weird feeling.
I didn't put my GPA on my resume, I don't think any of the model resumes provides by career services did either.
Did you guys out your GPA on the resume? I think every firm requested a transcript, so I think this is probably a irrelevant question.

Re: 2014 University of Virginia OGI Thread
I vaguely remember career services saying something along the lines that unless your GPA is ridiculously high (read: 3.7+ undergrad or law school), you shouldn't list it. This was during 1L recruiting though, so I don't know if that changed for OGI. I didn't have my GPA on any resumes for my 1L job hunt or my 2L stuff (job fairs, mass mailing, and OGI) and so far I have been getting good responses from firms (I'm at a 3.3x). I did submit my transcript for everything though. There's no sense hiding grades because they will just ask for it.Anonymous User wrote:Reading the OCI interview thread, said that not having your GPA on a resume gives him a weird feeling.

I asked KD this directly and he told me that it varies from case to case. He told me that I should put mine on even though I'm only top 1/3, but that it depends on background, practice area, etc.Anonymous User wrote:Reading the OCI interview thread, said that not having your GPA on a resume gives him a weird feeling.

How did you know you were top third? He told you?Anonymous User wrote: asked KD this directly and he told me that it varies from case to case. He told me that I should put mine on even though I'm only top 1/3, but that it depends on background, practice area, etc.
FWIW I assume I'm within the top third and I put my GPA on my resume as well. K-JD. Did alright with OTIP pre-selects so I'm guessing it is fine.
EDIT: Actually I think putting my GPA on my resume hurt me on one OTIP application that didn't request a copy of the transcript. I improved from first to second semester and my overall GPA probably didn't meet the firm's mark.

Original anon here:
Ok, so it's not going to make me look weird if I didn't. I consider my GPA "good" but it's not VLR good so I guess it's acceptable for me to leave it off, especially when I sent transcripts.

No, he didn't tell me and I wouldn't tell an interviewer that I'm top third, but the generally accepted cutoff, so far as I can tell, is 3.42ish. I don't know what the effect of the new grading curve is, though, since 1Ls have 2 electives.
I also improved pretty dramatically second semester and KD told me to list it like "GPA: 3.4x (spring:3.6x)." the reason was because my spring grades broke another one of the firms' arbitrary GPA lines, so if a firm really wanted to hire me based on my background, they could justify it using my spring grades.

Re: 2014 University of Virginia OGI Thread
I might steal that "GPA: 3.4x (spring:3.6x)" part for mine. I'm at a 3.3x, but I had a pretty good second semester as well. "GPA: 3.3x (Spring 3.5x)" sounds a lot better than "GPA: 3.3x".Anonymous User wrote:No, he didn't tell me and I wouldn't tell an interviewer that I'm top third, but the generally accepted cutoff, so far as I can tell, is 3.42ish. The whole spring GPA thing looks so awful in my opinion, but whatever, if KD says to do it I guess you listen.

Yeah, I was really surprised when he suggested it. I'd seen it on TLS and thought it looked dumb, but KD is the man and I want a job.daleearnhardt123 wrote:The whole spring GPA thing looks so awful in my opinion, but whatever, if KD says to do it I guess you listen.
I should mention that I have a tech background, though. Sometimes firms really are looking to justify hiring someone with particular experience.

Ya but firms don't need a blatant and transparent attempt at covering up that you're beneath their cut if they wanna hire you. If they REALLY wanna hire you they just go below their cut.Anonymous User wrote:Yeah, I was really surprised when he suggested it. What's done is done. I'll keep my fingers crossed and see how OGI goes.daleearnhardt123 wrote:Ya but firms don't need a blatant and transparent attempt at covering up that you're beneath their cut if they wanna hire you. I am nowhere near in contention for them, but Wachtell is officially in UVA's Resume Collect. Interesting. OGI in three years (calling it)

It's been a long time; but I believe some of the UVA posters from the boom days (06 07) used to mention that Watchell did resume collect back then. I think they just pulled back after the crash but they have a history of taking resumes from us from time to time.shadowofjazz wrote:I am nowhere near in contention for them, but Wachtell is officially in UVA's Resume Collect. Re: 2014 University of Virginia OGI Thread
Bumping this question up. I'm assuming a lot of firms would still just respond with a "bid on us at OGI" or something at this point even though we can't. When exactly would be a good time: after pre-selects come out (July 26)? after the lottery (August 3)? after OGI is finished (August 22)?shadowofjazz wrote:How soon after the bid deadline should we mass mail firms we didn't bid on?

That's exciting. Do you know where we'd go to see them? (I'm guess in Simplicity around the calendar section?) Didn't know if you'd figured this out too by reading the older threads.shadowofjazz wrote:note: In the past two years, TLS users noted schedules were out at 2:15pm in 2013 and 11:11pm in 2012 the day before the scheduled release date and before any CSO emails

Re: 2014 University of Virginia OGI Thread
The users in old threads logged into symplicity and saw the "OGI" dropdown was back under the OCI tab. They then were able to see preselects/alternates in a column on the bidding screen. I don't know if interview times were actually scheduled as of then (I'm guessing MAYBE there, as interview schedules likely change as things progress)lookingin wrote:That's exciting. Also, we haven't gotten an email yet, but Law Reg has been open since yesterday (with updated available courses). Don't let the hype of preselects result in forgetting to sign up for fall classes!

Re: 2014 University of Virginia OGI Thread
for people who are set on DC and bid almost exclusively on DC, how many preselects and alternates should be good enough to land something?

Great to hear some rooms were added. Better odds for everyone! Sounds like things are on track so we might see it up later tonight or the early early morning (unless they have it timed out for 10:00am this year)
