I had an alt (2) and an (8) surprisingly turn into interviews for me, but my top choice was an alternate without a number next to it. I had assumed that this meant I was the first alternate but apparently not?
As I understand it, some employers have ranked their alternates and others have not. An alternate with no number next to it is likely from an employer who hasn't ranked the alternates.
Also, congrats on the alternates that turned into interviews!
Well that makes sense I suppose. In that case, what's the best plan of attack? Send the firm a letter directly?
Also thank you!

What are people doing for accommodations? Anyone have any input about the hotel where we are supposed to stay, according to the email (DoubleTree Chicago Magnificent Mile at 300 E. Ohio)? PM if anyone wants to split a room...

Did anyone get interviews with different offices of the same firm at different fairs? This happened to me with 3 firms through SFIPLA and Loyola, primarily CA and TX offices. I have ties to both and would be very happy in either place, but don't want to kill my chances in both offices if interviewing in both locations would do that. Should I email them and cancel one of the interviews and just interview in the one office I prefer?

I emailed and asked the firms and that's what they suggested.

I got a real good deal at the Hyatt last year on Hotwire and it was super walkable and made me feel fancy and better than other people at worse hotels

Last year at Loyola I interviewed with Kirkland's NYC and Chicago offices. I got callbacks from both and an offer from NYC. Never heard/inquired about my subsequent status at the Chicago office.
If it were for the same office, cancel. I'm not sure I would cancel in your situation though.

Stats? Snagged an interview in Kirkland in SF, surprisingly, because I have neither great grades nor ties.

Quoted person here. Did you tell the other office you interviewed in the other location, and if so how did you address it? How did you pitch ties to Chicago, while simultaneously interviewing with them in NYC? Or did you just never mention it and it never came up? Thanks!

At PLIP, their interview rooms were right next to each other. At some point I think both offices knew I was interviewing/doing callbacks at the other office. They didn't seem to care. I may have even spun it as reflecting a specific interest in the firm as a whole.
I did get an offer at another big firm's Chicago office with literally no ties. When they asked about how I'd do in Chicago, I just talked about the town/region where I grew up and how it wasn't technically midwest but it had a very midwest culture/feel to it.
I'm not at a T14 but I had top grades and very lengthy and very Hatch-Waxman-amenable work experience so I'm not sure that my attempt to indirectly sell ties was what really won anyone over.

It's an email asking for selfidentifying information and to apply through their website

Companies that take federal contracts need to present stats about having a bona fide affirmative action plan. I have no idea actually how those surveys work --I could look more into it, but id guess you're doing them a favor by abstaining if you're white.

Not OP, but I received that email for Loyola and CCBA and I won't be filling it out either (I am a minority). It'd be one thing to ask us to fill out a form for self identification (which I would normally do). It's another to ask us to apply to fill out that form and trust they won't lump things together. On the off chance I interview with them through CCBA, BLG, or my school, I see no need to help them out by self-identifying.

What are the chances of actually getting off the alternate list for a place like Sidley Chicago? There was no alternate movement after pre-selects came out. My guess is that anyone who got a pre-select there received enough to justify going to PLIP and is not likely to turn down the interview. Any thoughts?

Yeah, none of my V25 alts turned into an interview. I think the two options you have left are to hope for cancelled flights the day before and hitting up the hospitality suites.

I had one V20 that I was alternate (6) for turn into an interview. As for the hospitality suites, how many firms typically have them and is there a list of what specific firms will? I'm an alternate at one of my top choices and would really like to pay them a visit if they have one.

That's incredibly frustrating. I went from below median after first semester to top 1/3 after second semester. But, of course, PLIP only allows first semester grades.
