Surprised no one kicked this thread back up post-OCI. Hope everyone out there this year got permanent/return offers!

Thank you for bumping this. This is quickly rising the ranks of my favorite thread on TLS, even though it reminds me of my great WV strikeout at OCI.

Re: West Virginia Legal Market
I summered at a large WV firm but declined to return. Interesting experience though.

Interviewed with 3 firms at OCI, ties, waiting to hear back still.

It's an oddly hard market to crack even for those with ties. I will say that I feel I got pretty lucky in getting my full time offer.descartesb4thehorse wrote:Thank you for bumping this. Re: West Virginia Legal Market
Yea, I mean I was born and raised there, but I got some kickback during my 1L callbacks, not for going to a T14 but for not doing undergrad in WV. Granted, I put most of my secondary market energy into Pittsburgh (where I did a lot better), but it still stung a bit that I totally struck out at the screener stage. Mostly because the dude who did get the CB for at least one firm had much weaker ties and openly mocked the West Virginia legal market.Anonymous User wrote:It's an oddly hard market to crack even for those with ties. Anon from above that declined to return. I summered with one of the big 3 firms.Anonymous User wrote:Care to talk about why you declined to return?
Speaking generally, I did not like the people/atmosphere. I think the firm itself was okay (I think) but not the people.

Bump....any movement? Specifically asking about the big Charleston firms -- Steptoe and Dinsmore.

I'd been waiting to hear back from Dinsmore and finally got a rejection in the mail last week.Anonymous User wrote:Bump....any movement? Specifically asking about the big Charleston firms -- Steptoe and Dinsmore.

Re: West Virginia Legal Market
OP here. Congrats to those with WV firm offers! Interesting to see how this thread evolved.
UPDATE: It turned out that my friend's zeal for WV dried up when he ended up hitting brick walls in his jerb hunt last spring and he ended up not doing any legal work over the summer.
Can having nothing for 1L summer be salvaged? I'd imagine it would raise huuuuuge red flags, but w/e.

It's really going to hurt him. Everyone will ask what he was doing with his life for that time period and why he wasn't working.

well he did found a non-profit during that period which is now 501c3...perhaps it could be spun as quasi-legal?

Anyone know off hand when WV begins accepting character and fitness stuff? I had an email from the head of the bar but I can't seem to find it. I want to say it begins in March.

it's sad, really. i am tempted to falsely imprison him in a closet with a laptop until he emails places where he could volunteer in a legal capacity.Anonymous User wrote:BlueLotus wrote:no idea, i generally don't ask. he is not on a journal, though. no clinics, externships, or pro bono work either. he thoroughly confuses me!Anonymous User wrote:BlueLotus wrote:BUMP. Could he salvage the situation by doing a clinic next spring?
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
