Sold. Alas, an unpredictable admissions cycle is the price I have paid for attending an UG which doesn't award GPAs.Desert Fox wrote:UIUC? Eh, eat Dos Reales and pick up 19 year olds at KAMs for three years. At least it will be fun.

Wow. If these numbers are correct, GULC's employer-to-student ratio is almost as bad as Notre Dame's.jchoggan wrote:The original listing of non-IP firms had about 110 individual employers on the list. A few firms have been added or removed since then, and some have removed or added just an office or two, but that number is about right. I'm not sure how many IP firms there are, or how these numbers compare to previous years.doomed123 wrote:So does no one have data for individual employers at Georgetown?holydonkey wrote:
Georgetown - 467 offices at Georgetown.
Edit: there are 72 lines/offices represented for IP at GULC OCI. I haven't counted the number of individual employers there are, but I'm guessing around 20-25.

Career Services at GULC told me to expect 6-10 interviews. I have nothing to compare this to, but I assume it was much higher in the past?

Re: School OCI Data
sorry if this was mentioned before, but what kind of bid system does GULC have? with 50 bids, 6-10 sounds just realllly low. Where i'm at we've got a completely blind bid lottery system (no preselects whatsoever), 12-15 each day for 3 days, and of the people with whom I've spoken the average is probably ~15 interviews over the three days.shmoo597 wrote:Career Services at GULC told me to expect 6-10 interviews. Proof that 100% lottery systems shouldn't exist outside of YHS?shmoo597 wrote:Career Services at GULC told me to expect 6-10 interviews. I have nothing to compare this to, but I assume it was much higher in the past?

My feelings about 100% lottery, esp. ITE, aren't all that positive, but, as I mentioned in my previous post, we just got results back from a 100% lottery system, and it worked out a lot better than 6-10 for 50 bids, at least for the people I know. i'ma keep an ear open to hear if others got screwed though.RVP11 wrote:Proof that 100% lottery systems shouldn't exist outside of YHS?shmoo597 wrote:Career Services at GULC told me to expect 6-10 interviews. How bad were Michigan's official numbers??bwv812 wrote: We have one round of bidding, and it is 100% lottery.
We get 50 bids, which is a total joke; maybe the first 20 count, and unless you're bidding on Portland, ME you're not likely to get anything lower than your 30th bid. Maybe in 2007 these bids were useful, but today it's just a joke.
The 100% lottery is also really dumb, and lots of the interviews that people do actually land will be useless. Some firms that traditionally hired around 3.2 (i.e., median) are getting 400+ bids for the 20 or 40 slots they have available, which means that people who they would actually like to hire are unlikely to get an interview. This trend continues up the GPA chain, obviously. I can understand everyone wanting to bid on firms where they might have a chance, but it would be much more effective to have people actually interview at places where both parties are interested.
They've changed our curve and changed the information they give us (they no longer release the number of Georgetown students that firms have hired, probably because they didn't want people to see, a la Michigan, how few got hired last year); it would be nice if they made real changes that actually help students get jobs or reflect current economic conditions.

Re: School OCI Data
NU has 3779 interview slots, down from 6181 in fall 2008 OCI. That equates to a mean of maybe 13 interviews per person.

Re: School OCI Data
UVA has ~6,200 interview slots (fewer or more may be given out depending on how each firm chooses to use their slots) which would yield ~16-17 interviews per person if nobody transferred in or out and everybody participated in OGI (all three are false, so I choose not to figure out how false each is and instead ignore all three factors).
This is lower than in the past, when there were more like ~9,000 interview slots to go around (the boom years). There are, however, as many or more total interview slots for the most selective firms - leading credence to the 'cream rises to the top' theory of legal work concentrating in top firms who in turn are hurt less and can hire more. Careful analysis of this thread seems to support this inference, but obviously we are grasping at straws with respect to the data.

100% preselects are far more of a joke ITE. At least with a lottery there's a scintilla of a chance.let/them/eat/cake wrote:My feelings about 100% lottery, esp. At least with preselects you know you aren't gargantually fucked if you get preselected, just immensely. With lottery you're still gargantually fucked no matter what.wiseowl wrote:100% preselects are far more of a joke ITE. At least with a lottery there's a scintilla of a chance.
