Do we think this year was actually down compared to previous years? I'm hoping to make myself feel better for only getting a few (not "top") CBs.
I don't think so - this sentiment is always shared on these forums (check the previous threads). People in my section have done very well, including those at or below median.

While it's easy to feel down and get disappointed, I really encourage you to take the moment and focus on the remaining CBs. Try to figure out where you could improve from your previous interviews and don't be proud to ask for help from OCS/friends/etc. Obviously the margin of error is small with only a few CBs.
Out of curiosity, what is "very well"? Are there a ton of people with +10 cbs in your section?
Yeah maybe that wasn't the best choice of words... When I last checked, I think roughly 20% of the section had 10+ CBs. Possible there's more because I didn't' go around asking every individual. Most of these were in NYC, although a few had these CBs in DC (fairly expected if you know who they are...)

However, most people in the section seemed to be in the 6-8 range that OCS mentioned.
For what it’s worth, I think that even though it’s been a common sentiment over the past few years that CB rates were low, there’s also a sense that it’s lower bc of pre-EIP activity. I think that’s why HLS was planning to do a Pre-EIP this year. My understanding is that, because pre-EIP action reduces the # of spots available, it kind of screws over some of the folks who wait until EIP to do anything. I’m not talking about like D&I positions of course, but I do think that when some people apply outside EIP and others stick to just EIP, it obviously hurts the people who waited and went through the EIP route. And, of course, it doesn’t help that other schools also had Pre-OCIs established while we didn’t.

It's quite interesting to see which firms disregarded OCS guidelines re: pre-OCI...

Agreed. It’s especially disappointing because some students followed the guidelines, and others didn’t, and those who did kind of get screwed

Did every firm do pre-OCI or was it basically just Latham?

EIP ended recently and I don't think many (if any) firms did interviews on MLK day so still very early.

But yes, I have heard of people receiving offers but think most are from pre-OCI. Small percentage of people who interviewed yesterday and received offers today

I had my two callbacks and neither went well. I don’t think I will get any offer and I am at a loss for what to do.

Hey, first off, there are plenty of people who think they did not interview well but then go on to receive offers. So don't already count yourself out!

That being said, if you haven't started already, make sure you're mass mailing other firms ASAP. See if there's other markets you might be interested in and apply there as well. OCS might be able to help you generate a list of firms that are looking for HLS students.

Finally, try to identify your struggles at interviewing - was it because you didn't do enough research? Not enough practice? It's important you identify and make these changes so you have better success at future interviews.

Long story short: be proactive! Good luck!
