I think OCS said 8 cbs or so was average.

Focused too heavily on D.C. and having a bad time. Advice?

Future HLS rising 2Ls, listen carefully: do not bid exclusively DC. I had high single-digit Hs/strong DC ties/Ivy UG/lots of interesting WE and I'm sitting on one DC CB as of Friday afternoon. OCS told me that I could aggressively bid DC with my grades/ties and if I hadn't been neurotic and added a bunch of NY screeners during add/drop, I'd be dangerously close to striking out right now. Lest you think I'm just a bad interviewer, my experience seems pretty representative: there are a lot of shell-shocked people walking around the Charles Hotel right now, and OCS confirms. The only people who seem to be doing OK in DC are those with more DSs than Ps. Unless you're lucky enough to fall into that category (and probably even if you do fall into that category), bid another market in addition to DC and/or take some screeners with "lesser" firms.

I want to reiterate this point with some anecdotal evidence: I split D.C. and Boston this year, because I am happy in either market and my SO is in Boston. I did 14 screeners for Boston, 14 for D.C., and one for NY (which I picked up at the last second). Grades were good and my background is in STEM; I did litigation-related work this summer. OCS said i am a great interviewer.

I ended up with 11 Boston CBs (out of 14), 1 NY CB (out of 1)...and 2 in D.C, out of 14 screeners, many of whom were not "prestigious" firms.

This is not an attempt at humblebragging - I am very happy with my results and I can't wait to explore them further. However, I was considering going all in on D.C. and made a last-second decision to split with Boston. Now I am very happy I did so.

D.C. offices seem to be giving far fewer cbs this year, and they all seem to cluster around the same few people: those with top grades and clerkships already lined up. Several of my friends with decent grades/interview skills have seem similar splits - a lot of CBs in one market, 1-3 in DC. I went to a few "invite-only" pre-CB dinners and as far as I can tell, even the people who got CBs from these dinners are mainly those with top grades and clerkships.

Do not bid only D.C. Or, alternately, mass mail D.C. on top of EIP if you are dead-set on being there.

im the original anon; email said that the recruiting office is open for a limited time today (but not tmr) for people to call and make a callback appointment, idk if that means all the decisions are going out today? just speculations; hope this is helpful.

OCS said in presentation 6 callbacks was average. Don't think that matters- some people have more reach firms than others, harder markets than others, etc.
