Don't listen to him wear a sexually suggestive costume to work

Wear a Superman Logo t-shirt under your button-down (Glasses wouldn't hurt either). You'll remain disguised as Clark Kent all day, but if anyone gives you a hard time you can reveal your true identity/costume.

Not sure if you made an account specifically for this, but this is actually an incredible ideaFrancisScottKey wrote:Wear a Superman Logo t-shirt under your button-down (Glasses wouldn't hurt either). I work at a firm that goes a little crazy about Halloween, and even here, only the staff dresses up. Some attorneys bring their kids in for the events, but they still don't dress up. (The kids do, obvi.)

I am going to dress up like the managing partner at my firm and use all his catchphrases ("LORDY LORDY!")

People seem to think I'm on the phone sometimes (it looks a bit like a headset) but no one has given me any grief about it. May vary office to office.
I wear one in the ear that is away from the door and keep my door either closed or cracked so that I can't be seen right away. When someone knocks or I hear someone coming, I just take the earbud out. People know what I'm doing, but no one cares. If I'm in on the weekend or later at night, I'll often just close the door and listen to the music, youtube documentary, podcast, whatever over the speakers. I just minimize the screen, so I'm not watching and am still engaged in whatever task I'm working on. I work better with noise. No one has cared.

What are thoughts on dipping in big law office? Obviously traditional dip would be a big no no or at least a very ballsy move. What about an alternative such as snus (for those of you who dont know, it is a wimp way to chew, but produces no spit, thus no disgusting spitter).
I do my best to hide it, and pull it out before someone comes in office... but what would reaction be if I got explicitly caught doing so?

People are going to think it's gross but I don't know how they'd know if you just close the door. Ditto vaping.Desert Fox wrote:Just lie and say it's an herbal remedy. Just run to the bathroom to throw in a snus if you're so paranoidAnonymous User wrote:What are thoughts on dipping in big law office? Re: New associate fuck up thread (and tips for slacking)
When I was a stub the main partner I was working for and a couple associates told me that evryone in the office dressed up for Haloween so I better have a good costume. I was busy at work on Oct. 30 so I didn't have time to put together a good costume and I was anxious about it because I wanted to be part of the office culture. Ended up showing up in business casual just like every day. Turns out no one dressed up and they were just messing with me.

Damn. That story would've been ten times better if you came to work dressed as Batman or something.Anonymous User wrote:When I was a stub the main partner I was working for and a court associates told me that evryone in the office dressed up for Haloween so I better have a good costume. Re: New associate fuck up thread (and tips for slacking)
Lots of days with no work here. Our billables don't start until the new year so there's not necessarily an incentive to go beyond some elementary level of hustle for it. Is it okay to do things like go grocery shopping, catch up with a friend, get a shave, etc. if I have my phone on me with access to e-mail at all times? Associates are saying it's cool to leave at 3 if there's no work, but no one else has had the guts to do it yet.

I use packets of dip and spit into half filled coffee cups with lids (very careful when I drink) that get immediately thrown out. No one's the wiser, other than that a chew a lot of gum to cover halitosis.SBL wrote:People are going to think it's gross but I don't know how they'd know if you just close the door. But if you can get The General Snus, switch to that forever. Works better, cleaner, and better for you. I think it's cheaper than packets to, but not as cheap as a can of loose Grizzly or Kodiak.

AP with the shave, friend and groceries - random things people do. Personally, I find grocery shopping to be relaxing, but we're getting off topic here. This is about appropriateness in big law, not personal idiosyncrasies.

People do this stuff to take advantage of their downtime but I wouldn't when you're new. Not a good first impression if you're out of the office at 3 pm when someone is looking for you.Anonymous User wrote:AP with the shave, friend and groceries - random things people do. come into work when you need. leave anytime from 11-2 without your stuff and go do whatever you want. check your email. your call on whether or not to come back to the office from 4-5 and sit it out.
