t14 whitey here with substantive legal experience in a home secondary market that I actually want to return to. I applied to several firms that didn't explicitly state they only hire diversity, I'm 3 of 6 on dings so far. Here comes a judge and a private loan I guess.

some of the whitest, straightest kids i know got 1L SAs here. so maybe it's not your skin color that's holding you back.

Keep an eye on your school's Symplicity (or other job website) for postings. I landed a super-awesome corporate in house position through Symplicity at a F100 company, and it was paid. You'd be surprised how many people actually have success through Symplicity, despite how generic and impersonal it seems.

Obviously more shit gets added to symplicity as time goes, as skers said, you guys have only been able to apply for jobs for 2 weeks. The 1L search can be long and drawn out, don't stress it. If you're really worried about it, just check other job posting sites. PSJD has some good shit.

Yes. Most companies don't even think about their summer hiring needs until February-April. Symplicity will really start to pick up after the new year, and be a great tool during spring semester, especially if your school is in a major market.
