Just wanted to encourage everyone to enter their stats at some point in this process. I understand not wanting to do it now, but this spreadsheet would be very helpful for future HP applicants if it included stats.

I'm assuming if other people have already had reference checks for the same division and we have not, it means we didn't get the position.

Do you think it matters when our references were checked? Some people had their references checked the same week of their interview. Others, the week after the interview. Maybe I'm reading too much into this, but I am really, really anxious. I'm assuming they check references if you're an alternate too.

Re: DOJ Honors Program 2014-15
I'm pretty sure the different components handle checking references differently. The year I did this, my references didn't get checked until after I'd been designated a finalist. People interviewing for EOIR who had interned for EOIR in the past had their EOIR references called before they even interviewed. So it varies. I wouldn't read too much into it.

Got my first rejection. Congrats to the two individuals who were offered and accepted positions as criminal AUSAs with the USAO for the District of Arizona!

I don't think the timing matters at all. If they check them, they check them. Especially since we're recording the interview and check dates by week. Someone who had their references checked Monday may have had their reference called that Friday.Anonymous User wrote:Do you think it matters when our references were checked? I'm with you on the anxious part and trying to figure out how much I can read into a reference check. I am not so sure it even means offer/finalist. Like with ATR(DC), what I'm looking at, it seems like not everyone has had their references checked but a high number here are reporting it. It's probably just another step in their process. I recall learning over the summer, that they are required to be very thorough and systematic in the process. For example, they have to read entirely through every application submitted and then for interviewees, every writing sample. I haven't ruled out the possibility that some components contact all references.
It might be best just to step away from TLS and the spreadsheet for a week.

Assuming you're Anonymous 12, things look really good for ATR(NY) right? Isn't that the one you want? By the way, how did you get an indication to expect an offer from them?Anonymous User wrote:Got my first rejection. Three more to go. Sigh...

Looks like the components are moving ahead on their own schedule. Deana Willis just posted that the US Attorney's Office for D. Arizona have made their offers. No news yet on any other components/offices.

Re: DOJ Honors Program 2014-15
Edited.
Greetings, everyone.
1. As of today, we have concluded all but one pending interview.
2. Formally participating components have a November 19th deadline to select finalists. They can act earlier at their discretion, and they can request a later date for good cause. As components identify finalists, I'll post online status changes and Community board updates.
3. A finalist is defined as a candidate under consideration for an offer. That includes first-round offer candidates and alternates. Your online status will reflect status as a finalist.
4. As a rule, first-round offers will go out very soon after a component identifies its finalists. EOIR-OCIJ is an exception - they have a complex internal process and their offers tend to be later than some other components. Initial offers are oral. The formal written offer letter is not issued until after the oral offer is accepted.
5. For general information on salary, visit http://www.justice.gov/legal-careers/at ... d-benefits.
6. Here is our policy regarding the timing of offers and response deadlines. a. For current law students, offers issued before December 15 must remain open for 28 days or until December until December 30, whichever comes first. Candidates should reaffirm these offers within 14 days from the date of the offer. We reserve the right to retract any offer that is not reaffirmed within the 14 day period. The component requesting ratification should provide a ratification date, identify the desired mode of communication (telephone, email, etc.), and identify a contact. b. Offers issued to current law students after December 15 or to a law school graduate at any time must remain open for at least two weeks after the date of the offer.

Fingers crossed. They called and told me where I stood and asked if they were still my first choice.Anonymous User wrote:Assuming you're Anonymous 12, things look really good for ATR(NY) right? That certainly looks promising. Sounds like they wanted to know if they could have you or if they should pursue someone else. Hope it comes through. You look like a strong candidate based on your stats.Anonymous User wrote: Fingers crossed. They called and told me where I stood and asked if they were still my first choice.

Apparently ED Cal finalist notifications went up. Here's hoping that the other components are going to be quick, too.

Getting around to submitting my travel reimbursement today. I noticed it says "fax back attention of your scheduler..." Who's the scheduler? Did y'all send it attention anyone?

Your scheduler should be on the fax they sent to schedule your interviews. So I sent my "attn: name of person on my fax sheet." I haven't gotten reimbursed yet, though, so who knows if I did it right.Anonymous User wrote:Getting around to submitting my travel reimbursement today. In other news, Deana Willis said CD Cal has selected finalists.

The fax you received with your interview schedule should list your scheduler. If you cannot find it or that information was omitted, please submit your request to the attention of Ms. Amy Mathers.

Re: DOJ Honors Program 2014-15
OP here. I contacted someone at OCIJ and was told I had to check "willing to go anywhere" if I was open to places outside my top 5, so I had someone at the office check that box for me. I was told checking this box does not bypass my top 5, so I wont automatically be placed in middle of nowhere, TX when my #1 choice still has spots open.Anonymous User wrote:EOIR OCIJ people: if you DONT check "willing to go anywhere" and your top 5 cities are full by the time they get to you on the ranked offer list, what happens? Do they offer a random city or do you get placed as an alternate/no offered? My interviewer said thought it was the former but told me wasnt sure.
Also per my interview with OCIJ: Interview write ups were due last Fri. Either last week of Nov or first week of Dec, applicants will be notified if they're a finalist (which could mean offer or alternate). After that, references will be checked. Offers will start going out the last week of Dec or first week of Jan, through Feb. Then you start the background check process. If your background check doesnt clear before your start date, you can still start. Start date is usually mid-Sept and begins with a week of training at headquarters.
