Can firms tell whether you bid them? I'm wondering if we should add a few firms 45-50 just to try to get through sign ups. And whether having bid them and just say it was a very popular firm or something would help give you a chance at an interview. There are a few firms I know will go faster than where I can put them so I'm wondering if this might be smart. Or it might help just being able to honestly say you bid them and still want the firm.

Yes, if you bid them and don't get them I believe they get your resume somehow. I don't know the logistics of it or whether they actually notice or look at them, but in theory they do know.

Also lol at the DC troll. Impressive effort to tailor it so well to UChi.

V20 interviewer/Chicago alum here. If you're on our schedule, we have no idea where you bid us. I guess it's possible, like the previous poster said, that "we" receive your resume if you bid and didn't get us. But I'm pretty sure our recruiting office will throw those away, the attorneys never see them.

Does journal membership (specifically LR) go on our transcripts? And when we bring transcripts to screeners, do we just bring the page with our grades or do we also include the page with the explanation/key?

Previous alum/interviewer here. Pretty sure the transcript lists journal, but it should be on your resume anyways. Bring both pages of the transcript. If you get a non-maroon interviewer it's their only chance at understanding it. (Although even in years that I don't do Chicago OCI, they often come to me to help "interpret" the transcripts.)

Journal membership does go on your transcript, but as previous poster said, it should be on your resume. PM me if you want an example of how to do that.

Some did the explanation sheet, some did not. I printed two-sided with grades/explanation. I don't think it matters.

Northwestern just got their bids, I'd guess Chicago bidding is somewhat similar. Check out their thread for some last min thoughts. JD CHI went early for them.

are Mayer Brown and MWE secure-ish at #10 and #11 respectively? Both have 63 slots

I've been told to assume that most of the 21-slot Chicago firms will be gone by 20-ish.

So do i put:
1. All NYC after 20; or
2. NYC from 20-26, then Chicago from 27+; or
3. Chicago from 20-26, then NYC from 27+

Essentially, what do i do with the cohort of 21-slot Chicago firms after i pass #20? Do i just write them off? Do i give myself a shot at getting 1-2 of them by putting them higher after 20 and risk losing all the NYC ones that come later? Or do I hedge by having NYC after 20 and just seeing what fate does with the Chicago firms after #27?

You have a better shot at NYC 21 slot firms after 20 because less people want them.

You can also put 21 slot chicago firms (the ones no one has ever heard of) around there and hope to get them.

Really, though. It's very unlikely you'll get anything except a couple random ones if you're lucky--and chances are you'll accept an offer at any firm in your top 15 before that one, so don't stress over it.

Looks like last year bidding closed Aug 4 (Sun, like this year) and results came out Aug 8 (Thur).

So if follows the same pattern, this Thur. the 7th. This is also what the "Important Dates" handout says.

I think that on the bidding screen in Symplicity under the Estimated 2L Slots column it has the number of slots remaining for firms that didn't fill. This is a complete guess, but it seems to match up with which firms I would think would and wouldn't fill, and for those that didn't fill, by how much.

40/50 firms filled. not sure what that means... my top firm bid had 3 slots.

Unless OP's assumption is wrong, that means you have at least ten interviews. Are you bidding a less popular secondary market or something.

So Wachtell and Cravath filled. It seems like California was really not a popular option for our class, which is surprising since the whole year I felt like half our damn class is from Cali.

Good of you to post the firm list for future 2Ls.

For what it's worth, these are the firms you can assume will be open for add/drop. Pick some you like and give them a shot. If you bid aggressively, add safeties. If you bid cautiously, add some long-shots.
