Finished up first half firm yesterday. Feeling pretty good about getting an offer but who knows. One week off and then on to the next place. I really loved the first place so I hope it works out.

Anonymous User wrote:uh so SA paranoia i guess but
is it normal for recruiting to want to meet with you in the middle of the summer to discuss what convinced you to accept their offer
like i get that the info could potentially be useful for them w/r/t strategy, etc. and it sort of makes sense because i'm not at a V10 and i could see them wanting to reach more deeply into my school
but OTOH i also don't feel like i should be obligated to answer "so what other offers did you have" or whatever. just feels like a "second" (or "twenty-seventh") interview. like didn't we already do this in "why this firm"
My SA firm did this. It was just a feedback session for the recruiting staff.

Yes. But the amount of work I am getting ensures I will stay late tomorrow and Wednesday, so what's the difference really?

My firm (NY) let us know last week that we'd have Friday off, pretty nice. Hopefully its not in exchange for a no-offer.Summerz wrote:SAs, are you getting Friday off as part of the July 4th holiday?

Sure do! Assignments are also light this week, because folks are heading out of town. I was able to leave at 6 today, which is the earliest I've left since my first daySummerz wrote:SAs, are you getting Friday off as part of the July 4th holiday?

What time do you usually leave? How long are the associates in the office?

Friday off too! I usually leave around 6P. On a regular basis there are always a few associates working later than 7P.... given the case loads, no surprise.mr.hands wrote:Wow, that's pretty late for an SA.alicrimson wrote:Sure do! We got off at Noon today! Let the 4 1/2 day July 4th break begin! I take it everyone one else will be off Friday too... right?

Off on Friday as well, but it seems like most of the big firms in town are working that day. (Houston).Skye wrote:Friday off too! I usually leave around 6P. This place was a ghost town by noon today. I'd be very surprised if any NYC BL firms are open Friday. I have to wonder if the courts are even open Friday.Anonymous User wrote:Off on Friday as well, but it seems like most of the big firms in town are working that day. (Houston).

Friday is not an official off day for me so I'm going to the office. However, I imagine many attorneys won't be at work.

The Zimmerman trial continues Friday, so it looks like the courts are open on the 5th.Renne Walker wrote:I'd be very surprised if any NYC BL firms are open Friday. I have to wonder if the courts are even open Friday.

I usually leave at 7 everyday. The associates are there after I leave for the most part.mr.hands wrote:Wow, that's pretty late for an SA.alicrimson wrote:Sure do! Our state court is open Friday. Federal took off today and will be off on Friday as well.Renne Walker wrote:This place was a ghost town by noon today. Also, cannot believe that there are only 3 weeks left for my, and many other people's, SA position. It seems like just yesterday we were all posting our start dates. I've found this summer terribly interesting, but, like many others, my stomach is beginning to get that knotted feeling that comes with the offer/no offer news. Good luck everyone!!!

+1 and given what we’re gone through for the last two months, doesn’t it feel a bit weird not going into work for four days straight (almost could claim five days given that Weds was a half day, at best). Off to the fireworks. Happy 4th!alicrimson wrote:Also, cannot believe that there are only 3 weeks left for my, and many other people's, SA position. There’s a cure for that…. go shopping! Most places have 40% off sales this weekend.….alicrimson wrote:Skye wrote:+1 and given what we’re gone through for the last two months, doesn’t it feel a bit weird not going into work for four days straight (almost could claim five days given that Weds was a half day, at best). I would, but I did a ton of that last weekend. I went a little nuts at Lily and the hair salon. Also, this weekend I have to drop a grand on car repairs. Not the funnest purchase, but, if I get a job offer with this firm/a comparable one, my aim is to hold onto this car for another two-three years, pay off loans, and then buy a fun one once the three years end. I haven't had any issues with it before, so I figure all ten year old cars need this stuff at some point. Still doesn't feel good. Hehe.
Happy shopping to you!

+1… time really has flown by. They know how to keep SAs busy! Perhaps unusual (or not) I was handed an assignment that is due after my official last SA day… I am hopeful that our end date will be lengthened by a couple weeks. Does anyone suspect that his or her firm might extend the end date?alicrimson wrote:Also, cannot believe that there are only 3 weeks left for my, and many other people's, SA position. At the moment just enjoying the beautiful sunny day that accompanies our 4 day break!

I don't think mine will. Our start/end dates are all uniform, nation(and world)-wide. At least nationally, we have coordinated starting and ending super teleconference calls. It's kinda cool, but I don't think we'll go past ten weeks.

Re: Summer Associate: Thoughts, Anxieties, Experiences, etc.
It is highly unlikely they will extend it simply because an attorney gave you an assignment that may be due after you should have ended. I would make certain the attorney knows when your last day is so (s)he can re-adjust his/her expectations.Sheffield wrote:+1… time really has flown by. They know how to keep SAs busy! NYC BL. We were open yesterday though about half of the attorneys worked from home; summers were required to show up but it was pretty low key.Renne Walker wrote: This place was a ghost town by noon today.
