FWIW, even WVU kids are having trouble finding Charleston housing. You may have better luck finding something in Huntington (but it's a 45 minute commute) if you can't find a single thing in Charleston.
There are some areas outside of Charleston that have housing available sometimes.

I was about to say that there are a ton of towns between Charleston and Huntington to cross off the list before making a Huntington to Charleston commute every day. Check South Charleston, Spring Hills, Dunbar, Nitro, St. Albans, and Cross Lanes. There's a ton of apartment housing in western Kanawha County and Putnam County.Anonymous User wrote:FWIW, even WVU kids are having trouble finding Charleston housing. Did anyone see Steptoe's updated NALP data today?
Expecting to hire 100 laterals. Geesh. Big change in average billables too.
I think they have the numbers from 1Ls and 2Ls switched.
Anyway, I guess it still looks like they hire most SAs?

Guarantee that is mostly for Houston/Woodlands. Funnily enough, I am interested in heading down to those offices myself after this summer.
No idea about the hours, though. That's strange.

The SA hiring number there looks great. 12 / 13 2Ls with a ton of 3Ls hired, it looks like. Probably all for Oil & Gas.

That billable change is perplexing.

Is the data on nalpdirectory.com? I searched WV but neither Steptoe nor JK came up.

Gotta just search "Steptoe" without having the state listed.
JK is not listed at all.

The growth on the Steptoe NALP form is tremendous. Any speculation on if any big 4 were thinking of raising associate salaries to the Pittsburgh/Cincy/Cleveland non-Vault market (100k or 105k). Associates I talked to at another firm said they could not believe how much work there was compared to ~3 years ago.

Excellent question and I would like to know the same. I have heard some rumblings about pay increase from some of the big 4 but nothing concrete.ImNoScar wrote:The growth on the Steptoe NALP form is tremendous. There is a significant pay disparity between the big 4 and those markets when there really does not need to be. COL is no different and the work has increased.

Called the dorms again with no luck so I sent an e-mail a couple of days ago. We'll see if I have any luck with that.

I thought it was. The firm genuinely seems to be viewed as the best one to work at and has a strong reputation.

The funny thing is that this firm is now dominated by Steptoe kids. I hope that some JK/Bowles/etc. kids can post up about their summer, too. This can be a really good resource for those thinking of summering out here.
I do find it funny that there are 300 posts about WV legal practice. It's weird, awesome, and unexpected. But the state is great, there is a lot of work out here, and firms are hiring. Isn't that all that matters?
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
