how many people in columbia usually do not end up with offers through EIP?

I believe last year it was something like 8%.


I know that 85% of people in last year's class got offers in total. I believe 92% of people got offers that actually tried.

My recollection of the 85% stat was that 85% of people who participated got an offer. It's still a good number, but not quite as high as yours.

No, I asked this question directly to Petal, and she said 92% of people got offers at EIP that participated.

85% of the class did (which included those PI folks that didn't even try).

It largely depends on the firm. Check the numbers on the 2011 EIP 2L Results document. Some firms weed out heavily based on interviews and then extend offers to everyone who got callbacks. Others weed out fewer during interviews and don't extend offers to that many after callbacks. You should look at the stats for the firms you have callbacks for to get a rough idea of your chances for an offer.

it depends on the market. in NY, i would say four CBs is safe although still not guaranteed. you can see the CB to offers ratios in that chart OCS gives you. Most firms in NY are around 50% but, for example, DPW is more like 25%. mass mailing never hurts, though. i was median last year and had six CBs from EIP and two from mass mailing. i only did four and then cancelled the rest once i got an offer i liked more.

tips on mass mailing: email every NLJ 250 firm in NYC and your home market. also find smaller firms on martindale to mail but start with NLJ 250 bc those are the most likely to have summer programs and the most likely to be hiring now. what i did was paste a short cover letter in the body of the email and then attach my resume and transcript as PDFs. in the subject line, put 'Columbia 2L (Stone - if applicable) seeking SA position.' i can put my email cover letter in this thread if you want to see it. IME, firms that came to EIP weren't responsive, but it is still worth mailing them. start with ones that didn't, but do the ones that did also.

ETA: even if you have four CBs, you may as well mass mail for more just to be safe. plus you need something to do with your time that is more productive than checking this thread and learning that CBs have gone out for your interviewers.

I'm a 3L and here are something to keep in mind:

1) MANY firms will not give out callbacks until the firm holds a meeting with the Hiring Committee and/or Summer Committee. Very often this takes place on Fridays (attorneys have less on their plate). Since EIP was just held Thurs-Tues it's very likely that these committees did not get to meet last week and will meet this week.

2) I got a callback offer 2 weeks after EIP. Keep in mind that Cornell and Cardozo interviewed before us. Moreover, firms are interviewing hundreds of students from other schools all within the same 2-3 week period. If you haven't gotten a callback yet I truly wouldn't worry.

3) At the end of the day all you need is one offer. So if you get one (or even two) callbacks just make sure you do a really good job at the callback interview.

Non LR, very average grades (barely a 3.0) and 3 years of unremarkable work experience (paralegal in a city that is not a major legal market) and have callbacks for the following. Only about half of these were interviews that I thought went spectacularly well; I'm legit surprised by at least two of them, so my completely useless advice would be to not stress out and consider yourself out of the running for a firm just because you weren't able to converse with the interviewer as if you're the oldest and dearest of friends.
