I have the most awesome secretary. I was worried about what to do since I've never had a secretary before but she is great. She shows me how to do everything, how to get everywhere and tells me what everybody is like.

Yeah, we might be at the same firm, but I got the same thing here. We were essentially told, "Don't worry about the price. Don't be stupid, but don't let the thought of cost hinder you in doing your job."Anonymous User wrote:We were told that our firm has monthly billing for WL & Lexis, so not to worry about anything. Any charges that are recoverable get recovered, but for those that aren't, it's not a big deal. I was honestly surprised about how using paid research tools wasn't frowned upon, after all the build up at school and on TLS about "cost-effective research."Anonymous User wrote:Anyone else surprised by the extent to which using paid research tools is frowned upon?

My secretary has been there like 25 years and has given me so much helpful info. She also gives me the nicest pep talks and that helped immensely in calming me down.
Got my first real assignment today toward the end of the day. Was going pretty slow since im still learning the computer programs and systems. Started speeding up, but wasn't able to finish before the assigning associate told me I should head home. Felt bad since that meant she had to finish the last portion herself and stay later. Praying that the part I completed was good/correct.

Sorry for the stupid question lol
Also, one of the partners at happy hour today was dropping f-bombs left and right. That's no license to do the same.

If a partner offers you a drink in his office -- do you take it?

I'm buying clothes, because I want clothes. The rest will be invested.

+1. I need to both update my wardrobe and learn how to invest monies, (aka, I need to learn how to be an adult).Stanford4Me wrote:I'm buying clothes, because I want clothes. The rest will be invested.

I bought lots of work clothes. This week's check goes to bills. Next week's I might be able to do something fun.Stanford4Me wrote:I'm buying clothes, because I want clothes. The rest will be invested.
I could always just go use my credit cards anyway, so I guess it really doesn't make any difference.

Fancy dinner, now that is what I am talking about. I am thinking of taking the wife somewhere to get champagne after first paycheck. All of this "rent, bills and invest" was making me feel bad about it.Ludovico Technique wrote:Rent, bills, clothes. This. I'm expecting to have to wait until the third paycheck to actually splurge on something.traehekat wrote:Rent. Credit card. Parents. Maybe some ice cream if there is anything left over.0L Hoping for 1 wrote:Real question ... What are people buying with their first paycheck?

More business causal clothes and a few incidentals. I'm really trying my best to live cheaply and not spend more just because I'm making more. Hopefully I can save a good amount this summer.0L Hoping for 1 wrote:Real question ... What are people buying with their first paycheck?

If I wasn't so lazy I would've added that I'll be eating at a lot of places around the city as well.0L Hoping for 1 wrote:Fancy dinner, now that is what I am talking about.
