Well, a firm notified me from a mailing and wanted to set up an interview before OCI. I ended up interviewing with them right after OCI ended and before callbacks began. You should definitely mail secondary midlaw firms early (July). It seems that many have a similar recruiting time line as biglaw.Veyron wrote: Did you interview anywhere over the summer? For median people targeting NYC at Penn this year, I'd say the average # of callbacks was probably around 7-9. I know below median kids with more than that for NYC too.rayiner wrote:I'm assuming by "top 1/3" he means "right at the border of top 1/3." As for Penn, who knows. I'd imagine it's somewhere between NYU and NU for people targeting NYC (maybe 5-6?). I don't have any data for Penn, but I'd be wary of going by your impressions as a 1L since the people who are comfortable talking about jobs to 1Ls are a very self-selecting demographic.

The impression that I get as a lowley know-nothing 1L pondscum is that P is doing much better than M and V for NYC targeters. Almost on par with N in fact.
I was actually comfortable choosing P over N(YU) with similar $ after talking to career services at both schools in part because of similarities in NYC placement (2nd choice) and arguably better placement in my home market (1st choice).

How did you surmise this? I haven't spoken to enough people to get this data and career services hasn't released numbers.markymark wrote: For median people targeting NYC at Penn this year, I'd say the average # of callbacks was probably around 7-9. These numbers suggest P is doing better than NYU in New York City (judging off NYU's callback/offer excel spreadsheet), which is questionable.

1) What does it say that everyone I know who is currently without a job is female? Reading too much into this...
2) Is there a OCI 2011 advice thread, or are we letting the class of 2013 learn for themselves/read through dozens of threads?
3) I don't think NYU's spreadsheet is very representative, because there doesn't seem to be that many NYU kids on here compared to their ginormous class size.

1) Female hysteria can hurt their performance during interviewing. Consider that males may feel a much stronger social stigma about admitting a lack of success at OCI.Anonymous User wrote:1) What does it say that everyone I know who is currently without a job is female? Approx. class rank: ~ Top 40%

Anything else that might have an impact?: Nothing special - however, each of the callbacks I received probably resulted from individuals I'd met from prior WE (pre-LS and 1L summer) that knew my screeners and were willing to make a call/email on my behalf. While my grades aren't terrible, they didn't particularly distinguish me and the lack of a journal didn't help. Something that I still don't understand: If you're posting anonymously, why give a school range instead of the ACTUAL SCHOOL you attend. This would seriously help people like me who are trying to figure out which school to attend *within* a particular range (e.g. people are calling Chi a "bloodbath," so when people say "above median CCN with 0 offers," it'd be nice to know whether it's C, C, or N). You're not outing yourself unless you're uniquely situated; 98% of the posters in this thread are not.

I don't really understand why everyone's whining about overhyped interviewing abilities in this thread, other than the fact that whining seems to be the pastime of the majority of this site's users.
Does it not make sense after awhile that top students at top law schools might *gasp* be closer to a 10 on a sliding scale of interviewing ability than my buddy from middle school that salvages sheet metal now out in the country?
I mean, if we're supposed to be rating ourselves 1-10 compared to other law students, fine. But A) that's pretty hard to do since you rarely if ever see other students interview, and B) is about as arbitrary as, well, anything else in law school.
Also not surprising that there's significant overlap in the "interviewgate" and "anon abuse!!!!!!" crowds. Mind. your. own. business.

Re: NEW final 2010 OCI results thread that are ACTUALLY FINAL
To counter this, there are some incredibly smart people on this forum who know each other pretty well, and saying what school you're from might make it really easy for someone to figure out who you are. I'm all for people giving a small range of schools instead of the school itself, if it's the difference between them sharing anonymously and not wanting to share at all.lawschoollll wrote:Something that I still don't understand: If you're posting anonymously, why give a school range instead of the ACTUAL SCHOOL you attend.
