The distinction is the number and size of international offices, and presumably the complexity and volume of work.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Mon Mar 07, 2022 2:28 pmAren't most, if not all, biglaw firms international law firms? I'm not understanding the distinction here...or is that the joke people are making?

International deal work blows so badly. Think hard before jumping at a firm that promises sexy cross-border transactions. I’ve never been less happy than when I’m on diligence calls with Asia at 3am.

I was the one who made the joke, and yup that's the joke. They brand it really aggressively when all firms except for like single office firms are essentially the same.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Mon Mar 07, 2022 2:28 pmAren't most, if not all, biglaw firms international law firms? A lot of people didn't get that I was making a joke, which either means I'm bad at sarcasm or people here are really bad at picking up sarcasm.

Reasonably confident that once Hogan and Wilmer match Cravath, they will cave. But the damage is done

Is S&C the only V10 who hasn't matched? What are they doing?

What is going on in Atlanta? K&S and A&B matched last time, do we think they're matching again or no? (Sorry if I missed this discussion if it was on an earlier page)

Will be interested Re where the matching line gets drawn here.
I think Holland and knight or whatever it’s called now is probably right below the MATCH line.
Do we expect the Greenbergs, DLA’s, Morgan Lewis, etc. to be the bottom of the MATCH subset (Ie right about the line)? Or do we think those types of firms aren’t gonna opt into this.

And the first V10 to make its associates return to the office, months before everyone else. Get it together, S&C.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Tue Mar 08, 2022 10:01 amS&C is bleeding midlevels like crazy. As someone leaving my firm (which has not yet matched but has to eventually) before the end of March - ew to this. Announce now and add back-pay to March pay checks! It's what all the cool firms are doing!Anonymous User wrote: ↑Tue Mar 08, 2022 11:41 amMorgan Lewis has already said it will match on April 1.

DLA and ML are 100% matching this. DLA was already paying above market. GT will likely do some form of matching in some offices, with some blackboxing of bonuses or something to cover the difference.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Tue Mar 08, 2022 11:21 amWill be interested Re where the matching line gets drawn here.

Those firms have always matched. K&S even has a PPP on par with some NYC firms. They'll just drag their feet because so many of their associates are in ATL and they can't charge clients very much for them.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Tue Mar 08, 2022 11:02 amWhat is going on in Atlanta? Has nothing to do with where their associates sit and everything to do with (1) how much their clients are willing to pay and (2) how much their partners think they need to pay to compete for talent in Atlanta. A given client is not out there offering to pay X for Atlanta associates but X+Y for New York associates from the same firm/partner.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Tue Mar 08, 2022 1:33 pmThose firms have always matched. Re: Milbank/Davis Polk/Cravath Scale: NYC to 215-415k
Wrong. Some firms charge higher rates for NYC associates. Regardless, this has everything to do with (2) and very little to do with (1). To the point of K&S's PPP, that has to do with their high leverage. Incidentally that also means raising salaries hits the partners' pockets harder.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Tue Mar 08, 2022 1:40 pmHas nothing to do with where their associates sit and everything to do with (1) how much their clients are willing to pay and (2) how much their partners think they need to pay to compete for talent in Atlanta.
