Anybody still in the market? Also, should I expect a ding if it's approaching a week after the callback, if they said I should expect to hear back within a week at the latest?

Still in it too. About to hit two weeks on my last callback, after they said that I should hear back "soon." Pretty demoralizing at this point.Anonymous User wrote:Anybody still in the market? Is it normal to not have had any callbacks so far, and just one screener? Feeling like there’s something wrong with my app. Did you all summer at biglaw and have offers to return? Or do you have specialized experience?

Re: 3L OCI 2019
Previous anon. I've had a few callbacks, and did not summer in biglaw. I don't have much specialized experience for most of the 3L positions that've popped up (e.g. finance, bankruptcy, corporate), but I took whatever relevant nuggets were on my resume/transcript and tailored cover letters to these positions through them. But no offer to show for any of it yet, so clearly missing something too.Anonymous User wrote:Is it normal to not have had any callbacks so far, and just one screener? Re: 3L OCI 2019
I feel you. I think it’s great that you’re getting interviews, though. At the very least, it says that something isn’t glaringly wrong with your app. I’m afraid there may be with mine. My career counselors at school looked it over and couldn’t find a thing (one of them is definitely a really good counselor, so I know that’s not the issue). I’m afraid firms might be calling my firm and my firm may be saying something off. But also, why would they call so early in the process? Alternatively, it may be that my resume basically screams that I’m specialized in an area that isn’t hiring much at the moment. But I’ve applied to a couple of openings that seemed to match my specialization, and still no word. I honestly have no clue what to do. I must’ve sent like 70+ random massmails right now, and 30 or so apps for specific positions. Almost all biglaw, but some others in there. I know that’s not as much as I need to send, but what worries me is that they’re something wrong enough with my app that I barely got one screener, and even that was only with HR.

I've had several screeners and callbacks as well. I summered at a V10. I also networked early and often, casting a wide net. Interviews have been more about fit than anything.
Some luck in NYC and TX. No bites in SoCal. Bay Area seems to be hot right now.

Since you summered at a V10, I’m assuming you got another offer from the 3L job search before the deadline to accept your offer at your summer firm? Or did you accept your summer firm’s offer and are considering reneging?Anonymous User wrote:I've had several screeners and callbacks as well. I summered at a V10. Re: 3L OCI 2019
Different anon than above but I received an offer through 3L OCI at the end of August. I have also been asked since I accepted my offer within the last week to go to a firm networking event to see if I’m interested in a 3L position so there are still firms looking. Honestly, it is all about “fit.” I worked hard and networked, which is what I think paid off.
*I will also note that you need to have a compelling story for 3L OCI and a major change in grades or work experience for a firm to look at you.

Yes, I received another offer before the deadline to accept my SA firm. I "took a risk" and emailed other firms before my summer was over. I'm not saying that's the right move for everyone, especially if you're concerned about receiving an offer to return, but it helps to be one of the first in line. I wouldn't do that within the same city, but if you're looking to change markets, it's probably okay.Anonymous User wrote:Since you summered at a V10, I’m assuming you got another offer from the 3L job search before the deadline to accept your offer at your summer firm? The real trick is to have a connection to a partner who forwards your stuff to HR. I had luck with alumni connections, personal connections, and even random on-campus networking events.

3L recruiting is basically dead this year. Last year there were multiple firms recruiting after September

I feel you. It's quite demoralizing because I thought I hit it off really well (partners literally saying that I'd be a good fit in their practice group and telling me to contact them if I have any questions). No ding yet but I guess no news is not good news either.Anonymous User wrote:Still in it too. About to hit two weeks on my last callback, after they said that I should hear back "soon." Re: 3L OCI 2019
I had success with 3L OCI, but I know that it was probably not without my grade improvement to above median at a t13 and already summering at a midlaw firm. I also had a compelling reason for switching cities. Best of luck to everyone, and if it matters my best luck was actually with mass mailing apps to regional biglaw firms. Also interviewed with a few standard biglaw firms in Chicago and NYC, but I have been offered far more screener interviews at large firms in southern and midwestern cities where I have ties that weren't publicizing positions. The firm I will be joining never posted the position I was hired for and it was general corp.

Re: 3L OCI 2019
I did two summers in biglaw (same firm, V15) and had an offer to return. I did corporate/finance both summers, and finance especially seemed pretty in-demand with firms looking to hire rising 3Ls. I had a good reason for wanting to switch to a SoCal market (significant other) and my grades went up dramatically 2L year (high grades in Corporations and Secured Transactions were mentioned during interviews). I generally networked with alumni from my law school who offered to pass my resume along instead of going directly to recruiting. Didn't do OCI. Only ended up applying to four firms, all biglaw, and got two offers in late August, which I was very happily surprised by. I do go to HYS, so I'm positive that had a lot to do with it. That and just good luck/"fit"/clicking with certain people, I think.Anonymous User wrote:Did you all summer at biglaw and have offers to return? Or do you have specialized experience?

Bump. Is 3L hiring dead this cycle, or do people just not post here anymore? Previous year 3L hiring threads were active x10.

Re: 3L OCI 2019
I posted somewhere else in this thread. This site I would say is a little dead, but that the 3L market was at one point hot and has fallen off. I received around 10 or so interview offers in August and September, mostly through mass mailing. Also had a handful of places tell me to reach back out around May if I was still looking because they would have a better idea of needs then. As for the market cooling off, I have a lot of outstanding applications still and have not heard a peep from anyone since the first week of October. Not even any rejections or firms telling me to get back to them at a later point in time.Anonymous User wrote:Bump. Is 3L hiring dead this cycle, or do people just not post here anymore?
