not to nit pick but i feel like: cotton chinos ~= cotton dress pantsGlasseyes wrote:Not too far back someone was talking about only wearing chinos. I'm on the fence. I have a few pairs of nice dress slacks that would work perfectly, but wool pants suck ass in summer, so I dunno.
not to say that the former is necessarily not okay, i just think the previous conversation was more referring to the latter.
personally, i'll be deferring to the latter.

The issue with cotton dress pants is that you generally still have to dry clean them. Still might be worth the enhanced breathability to minimize swampass (obviously a huge concern in DC).SplitMyPants wrote:not to nit pick but i feel like: cotton chinos ~= cotton dress pantsGlasseyes wrote:Not too far back someone was talking about only wearing chinos. I was definitely referring to chinos. I guess my firm is on the very casual end of business casual.SplitMyPants wrote:not to nit pick but i feel like: cotton chinos ~= cotton dress pantsGlasseyes wrote:Not too far back someone was talking about only wearing chinos. I was actually wrong about the cotton dress pants in that link; those are machine wash. Those look pretty good, besides the ultra slim fit.Glasseyes wrote:The issue with cotton dress pants is that you generally still have to dry clean them. Those cotton dress pants are far from ultra-slim. Obviously use your judgement when you try them on with your body, but if those fit you, they are perfectly acceptable in a professional environment.

My firm lists acceptable pants as Casual Pants (e.g., khakis), Dockers, Corduroys, Dress Slacks. This is a trap to separate out the no-offers, right?

Has anyone else not heard from their firm for months? Did conflicts forms and such in the fall and got a letter with my start date back in February, but nothing since.

You can also find something decent at Banana Republic or Ann Taylor. Both offer regular, petite and tall options.Londonbear wrote:Theory has nice suits, but for the price, sometimes it doesn't fit rightRule104(a) wrote:Ladies, where do you buy your suits?
J.Crew has better fitting suits if you're petite and they will tailor it for you if you buy it w/their JCrew card, but the quality is only okay for the price
Boss also has decent suits, can get really pricey, but if it's on sale, it comes out to about the same as J.Crew and Theory
Nordstrom can also be a good bet. They usually have Theory and Boss, and sometimes Vince Camuto and Halogen will have suiting options. And they tailor.
Best advice...go to a mall and try on options at different places. Suit sizing can be weird and they all fit differently.

Re: Summer Associate Class of 2016
I have a bunch of chinos from Banana Republic, a ton of dress shirts from Brooks Brothers, and 2 suits. I was planning on wearing dress shirts and chinos, but the last page of the thread indicates chinos are not a good idea. Where do you all recommend getting cheap slacks or other more appropriate pants? Could always just wear the suit pants without jacket...

Banana Republic is a good bet for cheap slacks, especially if their chinos fit you well. Suit idea is not bad either if you want to feel it out the first week. Two pairs is enough to get by the first week.mylifeis24 wrote:I have a bunch of chinos from Banana Republic, a ton of dress shirts from Brooks Brothers, and 2 suits. I rolled with $20 Van Heusen pants all summer and narrowly escaped with an offer somehow

Are daily lunches a thing with V50 NYC firms? Or should we plan to bring a lunch? I'm hoping to put most of my paycheck towards loan interest rather than paying for lunch every day.

This has been something I've thought about too. I'm a fitness nut and I basically never eat out. Going out to lunch every day sounds awful. Will it look weird if I eat a side salad every time we go out to lunch?Anonymous User wrote:Are daily lunches a thing with V50 NYC firms? Or should we plan to bring a lunch? I had a lot of social lunches for 1L summer and I basically got into a routine of eating like 2500 calories at lunch and then not eating dinner. It sounds kind of ridiculous but if you look at stuff like intermittent fasting https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intermittent_fasting there's a lot of science behind it. I would have gained like 15 pounds without operating this way.
You could also just eat like a normal person at lunch but I found this really hard to do when they lasted 2 hours and everyone was getting multiple rounds of food. A lot of it is just playing off of other people.
I also literally just binge eat (and drink) on weekends also, so I probably not the healthiest person to take diet advice from.

Probably saved by judicious rotation of Park and Fifth Aves.BigZuck wrote:I rolled with $20 Van Heusen pants all summer and narrowly escaped with an offer somehow

What are all your thoughts on using your firm's gym, if they have one? Any former SA's do it or was it slightly taboo?

I just want every restaurant to have baked chicken breast with some steamed vegetables and rice on the side, is that so much to ask? I'd go out way more often if I could get that.tyrant_flycatcher wrote: I was planning on accepting my fate and spending that much more time at the gym. #firstworldproblems

There's no fucking way I want anyone I work with to know what I look like when I'm lifting. It took me a long time to work out with my girlfriend.Anonymous User wrote:What are all your thoughts on using your firm's gym, if they have one? Any former SA's do it or was it slightly taboo?
