I'm just curious about UVA employment stats that K-Don sent us... there are many band 3 and band 2 DC firms. Why would they not want someone with a >3.5

Simple. DC has tiny class sizes. Harvard, NYU, and Columbia have thousands of 2L's with great grades. And they have the huge reserve army of labor known as Georgetown Law right in the city to instantly fill any vacancies within a day if they wanted to.

The combined 1L class of all of those schools is 1371.. So approx. the same number of 2Ls. "Thousands"

Above median targeting New York and definitely not the case for me. Playing the waiting game at the moment. There's a whole lot of luck/intangibles that goes into the process. And no news (had a few CBs almost 2 weeks ago) seems to be bad news.

Think the lesson from this is, especially at the NYC firms that have huge summer classes, so long as your grades don't disqualify you it's really your unmeasurables that matter. In a class of 100 summers, the firms are willing to take a shot on a below-median UVA student if they interviewed well, have good work experience, have a compelling narrative, etc. Grades matter, but they're hardly destiny.

Will agree with this. I thought I was screwed going into OGI--I'm also below median and also have 7 offers, from NYC and two more regional markets. There is absolutely a lot of hope for below median folks, OLs and 1Ls.

Technically, I think it's 5 live offers per market, but I could be wrong

Not sure if it's 5 per market, but you do have 5 days from the time you exceed the limit to get down to 5.

Agree that grades matter but intangibles matter probably as much and more for some people. I know some people above median struggling while others at or below median killing it. Good bidding and a good story goes a long way.

The most bizarre thing I've noticed has been people near median bidding DC. Seriously, why did you do that?

Anything can happen in OGI. In my year, a student with 1L GPA of 3.0 secured an offer from the DC office of a V50, among other offers. That 1L student hated NY and loved DC, thereby targeted the DC market and did not bid any firm in the NY market.

Do not give up. Mass mail and interface with CS. When you interview remember you are selling yourself, not your grades You are the product. Try to know your audience and play to it.

Honestly, I wouldn't give up and drop out--at least not unless you hate law and don't want to be an attorney. Otherwise, I'll tell you, I'm having a hard ass time too. Just keep plugging away: apply to one job a day on simplicity and two in a market you're interested in or have ties to. Wherever you end up for 2L summer you're not guaranteed to be forever, let alone post-3L year. Also, take advantage of the OGI double take. Someone from there just hit me up today. This process sucks and it's exhausting, but if you can make it through, you're going to be happy you did.

keep hustling. it's not too late. i know of students with very good grades who didn't have something by now but ended up where they wanted to be for 2L summer. it just takes one offer. keep CS apprised. stay aggressive.

if you feel yourself starting to slip into a panic, do what you have to do to keep your spirits up - take a long lunch, call friends from home and talk about literally anything else, vent to a friend in LS you trust to be rational but also not a douchebag about it, play a dumb flash/video game you're good at for a half hour. then get back to the grind. you're not alone in this situation.

Deep breath. Confident. Calm. Know your stories. You can do this. Funny cute, not funny hilarious. Go be great.

A lot of people are starting to choose between offers and decline others. I say that, not to rub it in, but because that friend who told you they have 10 offers is going to have to decline 9 of them, and those 9 other firms are going to need people. Those people could still be you, which is why no news is still good news, and you should keep hustling.
