All Chi unless otherwise listed. Wanted lit but can express openness to transnational if it means an offer. 3.58. want CHI very much, would consider Portland. Portland is obviously going to be more mass-mailing. I do have an interview with a PDX firm through PLIP. I realize it's going to be tough but my spouse will leave me if I uproot us to NYC.

Completely disagree with the above. Based on the aggregate of the last three years, you'll definitely get Kirkland though probably not Sidley.

Re: Northwestern OCI 2015
I'll make a statement that others will probably disagree with heavily, but I'll say it anyway just to put in my two cents. Mass mailing is generally totally ineffective and a waste of time. I'm sure one person every so offer gets an SA from a big law firm through mass mailing, but I didn't know anyone like that from my class. You get SA jobs from OCI and other job fairs (OTIP, PLSF (is that what it's called?), etc.). Big law firms already see more than enough candidates to fill their classes from these functions. Generally, if you're getting an SA at a large law firm through mass mailing, you are an outstanding candidate, and you would've already got a big law firm gig anyway.Micdiddy wrote:Yeah massmails should have already begun. This does not apply to non-large law firms. I think mass mailing can work with these places; but they generally operate on a different schedule and through different hiring process than large law firms. These smaller firms aren't looking for mass mail stuff from a a rising 2L in July.
I'm sure there are exceptions, and it's true there is no downside to mass mailing, but just wanted to give some perspective here.

Re: Northwestern OCI 2015
I have a 3.3X and I want to work in Chicago or somewhere on the west coast. I am from the midwest. I do not want to work in New York, and I am willing to risk striking out. My guess is that I should not bid on SF/SJ because I do not have enough ties and that I should focus solely on Chicago for OCI. How should I bid OCI? Also, I would be happy with living in minneapolis/madison/seattle/portland/denver/bay area. Should I mass mail there?

Let's move debevoise down a few notches but still in the top 5, put gibson 1 and skadden 2. Cravath can be moved down to about 10-12 very safely and it's a reach for you anyway so no use wasting that high a bid there. Move weil up a fair amount. Note about Sidley: you are going to need to pick 1 office and stick to it - they will ask in each office's interview which office you want so the other interviews at your 2nd choice office are basically wasted. I suggest their DC office if you want lit, & that way you arent wasting a top 10 bid with sidley NY. cooley will need to be moved up, probably to the top 10. simpson should be higher, also top 10. you can knock wilmer down a bit, but if you REALLY want it, keep it top 15 to be completely risk adverse. unless you're hell bent on NY, i'd think about moving some of the DC firms you have down low up to the 20s or late teens. you shouldnt have too big a problem securing cb from NYv10 with your GPA, so get a little bold with the bidding as long as you have those safeties sprinkled in.Anonymous User wrote:Critiques please. Wilmerhale DC can be moved to the 15-20 range and still safely get it.

Thanks. Is Sidley the only firm that asks that question? At median GPA. Started mass-mailing two weeks ago. Just got a CB scheduled. It's real life. Do it if you haven't started.

As for above comments regarding 3.8 transactional NY person, don't massmail unless it's late August and your options aren't what you thought they'd be.
